I've tried to get into Dune, but I just can't do it.
The first novel was amazing. Literally a perception- changing experience for me as a teenager. But the follow-on books steadily declined in quality and impact. By the time I got to Chapterhouse, I gave up midway through. Every once in a blue moon I reread the Original. Its like the Matrix. Best if you just pretend that the sequels don’t exist.

It would just be the Emperor telling the Harkonnens they can have Arrakis + the montage at the beginning of Dune 2 of them taking over from the Atreides.
They could also add the discovery of spice, the evolution of the navigators, the political intrigue of the various houses, the fued between Harkonans and Atreidis, etc.

The discovery of spice was 1000 years before Prophecy. The creation of the Spacing Guild, the origins of the Harkonnen and Atreides fued, and the rise of the Landsraad are all things we can expect to see in Prophecy. Nothing of any real note happens in the 10,000 years leading up to Dune if you’re relying on canonical events.

I'll take your word for it. Never read the books.

Book 4 - God Emperor - is almost as good as the first novel.
