Just realized the actress that plays the Empress is the same one that played Alice Munro in Last of the Mohicans

Are we going to ignore the cringy shield kiss and the reverend mother just ripping into the emperor then saying “but I’m just a school teacher” immediately after he finally stands up to her? There are a lot of scenes like this, the sex scene with the prince and the would be sister in law is another. Compare the way they behave to the movies, compare the dialogue, even the body language of everyone and the movies are 10k years later. This is more gossip girl than it is Dune. Those are things that could’ve easily been copied but this show runner just wanted to make a female empowerment show using the Dune momentum. The BG are so interesting and badass but this show is incapable of doing them justice.
Btw the writers and creatives are from shows like Westworld S4, Empire and The Originals

Cmon now, you know the only reason that was done is to highlight the threat of Desmond. It had nothing to do with the Emperor.

The show runner is a woman. Just like the main writers in HOD were women.
You see the result. A lot of talking, little action, and a lot of crap about feelings.

It feels like you're making a mountain out of a molehill. Did the "school teacher" quip really bother you that much? Rev Mother Mohiam had clever one liners throughout the books. They were haughty and arrogant just like Valya. The tone in the show is certainly less stark and bleak than the movies. But it's a television show, that's to be expected.
I rarely post on the movie/tv board, so I really don't want to jump to any conclusions, but it seems like you came into this show ready to hate it no matter what happened.

That’s not clever, it’s stupid and you’re wrong, just checkout the announcement thread.

Meh, it's a single line. For me, it shouldn't really be blown up into anything more than it is, but I shouldn't be dictating what makes good art to others. Just a matter of taste. You're entitled to that. It came across as sarcastic arrogance to me, which is classic reverend mother material.

She’s berating him and the minute she sees it’s not working she says it. It’s not clever, it’s not sarcastic, it’s dumb. The line accomplishes nothing, it’s for the audience really and it’s a pattern in this show. Not long ago at a family gathering I walked in to my aunts and mom watching Fire Country, it’s the same writing style, it’s not Dune.

I thought it showed that she knew when she had pushed her limit too far and had to back down, but she's arrogant enough to have the last word anyway. RM Mohiam just wouldn't have backed down at all. It shows the gulf in respect and presence that the Sisterhood has at the time of the show versus the time of the books.

This is not a good show and that’s sucks because it should’ve been. They had the strong females they wanted but they can’t even do it right, they have to turn them into the same stupid trope that always fails. After next weeks ep it won’t be deniable.

That was the intent yes but it’s dumb. He already knows her position, her saying that is openly dishonest to him. If shes that stupid she’s not worth her position in universe or in the show.

And I’m not 100% but don’t the Fremen arrive on Arrakis around (7000 AG)? This show takes place about 190 AG but the princess is talking about Fremen culture and Shai-Halud?

Those were some nice tittays

The Zensunni arrived on Arrakis around 7200 AG, IIRC.

And this takes place 100 years after the jihad or 190 AG so the Fremen aren’t on Dune yet.

They were, and were very versatile Ts as well.

Zensunni/Fremen weren't on Dune yet. As to whether a Shai Hulud existed at that point, we don't really know. The name is Arabic, and the Fremen, aka Zensunni, descend from an Arabic ethnic group. As to whether that entity existed before the sandworms, we don't know. We do know the worms are an invasive species on Arrakis, and there is a popular theory that the Zensunni brought the worms with them. So if that is true, then it's possible Shai Hulud existed at the time of the show.
But there's no way you can convince me the show runners did that much research into the lore.

I’d rather be watching the formation and history of the Mentats.

I want to see Thufir Hawats scenes from Dune 2. Hope DV released them. I heard somewhere that he hates the idea of a directors cut but might put one out or some cut scenes for Dune 2.
Posted on 11/25/24 at 10:24 pm to BleedPurpleGold
But isn’t Shai-Halud a Fremen name? They named the worm this so why is the princess talking about the Fremen and Shai-Halud on Dune?
