Drag Me to Hell

I mean, how much is this movie going to suck arse?
Here is your plot synopsis:
"Christine Brown is an ambitious L.A. loan officer with a charming boyfriend, professor Clay Dalton. Life is good until the mysterious Mrs. Ganush arrives at the bank to beg for an extension on her home loan. Should Christine follow her instincts and give the old woman a break? Or should she deny the extension to impress her boss, Mr. Jacks, and get a leg-up on a promotion? Christine fatefully chooses the latter, shaming Mrs. Ganush and dispossessing her of her home. In retaliation, the old woman places the powerful curse of the Lamia on Christine, transforming her life into a living hell. Haunted by an evil spirit and misunderstood by a skeptical boyfriend, she seeks the aid of seer Rham Jas to save her soul from eternal damnation. To help the shattered Christine return her life to normal, the psychic sets her on a frantic course to reverse the spell. As evil forces close in, Christine must face the unthinkable: How far will she go to break free of the curse?"
So, this old chick has the ability to place curses on people, so instead of cursing the person who's truly responsible (I highly doubt that some young chick is the decision maker at her bank when it comes to loan extensions...), she goes after the messenger. Plus, if she has this (and likely other powers), why the frick doesn't she use them to get more money for her to pay the mortgage?
Stupid plot from the beginning. I hope that the production company loses money on this, but they probably won't, and that's a really fricking sad comment on our society.

That's really sad. I get the whole mortgage crisis angle, but come on, man!

She is a loan officer.. If I read the plot correctly that would mean that she alone made the decision. Thats what loan officers do.

It is a horror film by Sam Raimi. It shall be awesome. Plot summary of another Raimi horror film:
quote:
Five friends go to a cabin in the woods for a vacation. They discover The Book of the Dead and a tape recorder belonging to a professor, who also owns the cabin. One of them plays back what is recorded on the tape-- which just happens to be Candarian resurrection passages translated from the Necronomicon (Book of the Dead) by the professor, which unleashes an evil force from the woods. The people start turning into evil deadites, and the others soon learn from the tape that the only way to kill a person who is turned into a deadite is by total body dismemberment. People are dying left and right; one girl early in the film looses control and runs off into the woods, only to be raped by the trees.

The loan officer is not the final say in those decisions...

PG-13 and Sam Raimi horror film should never be in the same sentence.
This should have been R.
It was the absurd gore, not the story that made the Evil Dead movies fun.

Drag Me to Hell looks badass, and it's Sam Raimi, but the PG-13 thing might be too much to overcome. Not a lot of good PG-13 horror movies.

besides, it's Raimi weaving a tale that's what he does, just go along with the plot it seems like a creepy, fun movie.

Sophandros, I think you are mistaken about this one. This will be loads of fun.
I'm with you guys on the PG-13 thing, but we'll just have to wait and see. I can't wait for this one.

I thought the story was a lot of fun... and no mention of Ash? Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) is the glue that holds the trilogy together, and the chief reason they have become cult classics.

I can't wait to see this movie. I think it's gonna be great. Hope I'm right.

Sorry, it just looks really stupid and overly simplistic.
And yes, Catman, I am correct. The person at the desk in the bank is NOT the person who makes the final call, and in one of the commercials, she asks her boss if they can extend and he tells her that they've already given two extensions. He then says, "It's your call," which would NEVER happen, especially in the current lending environment.
But I'm only a financial professional who lives with a Realtor, so what do I know?

True. I'm trying to apply logic to old people AND movies...
Maybe I'm over thinking this just a bit...
Still, the PG-13 part bugs me.

If you think the actual loan officer(salesman) is the one that makes loans, you are VERY misinformed. This may be the case at the tiny FCU with 2 branches but everywhere else it's the underwriters. They are gods when it comes to lending.
Posted on 5/27/09 at 9:03 am to Sophandros
Yea what would I know I only work for a bank headquarters that works closely with loan officers (underwriters) as I provide all the resources to them from an IT standpoint so they can MAKE SOLE DECISIONS on customers as to if they provide them a loan. There is nobody that they turn to for approval. But your wife is a realtor so she would know too. But Im glad you think you know something.. Let me get you a cookie.
