If you are into history, Amazon often has the Great Courses lecture series available on Prime. It's a bit dry with a lecturer talking and pictures displayed as they talk. But very informative. I watched one on medieval technology recently.

I watched a good one last night on Kanopy

AUM: The Cult at the End of the World

.

quote:

AUM: The Cult at the End of the World is a 2023 documentary film directed by Ben Braun and Chiaki Yanagimoto in their directorial debuts, based on the book The Cult at the End of the World by David E. Kaplan and Andrew Marshall.

It's about the cult Aum Shinrikyo who were fricking crazy. They're the ones who did the Sarin gas attack on the subways in Tokyo in the 90s.

I prefer the multi-episode LPOTL series but the doc does a good job summarizing the story over 2 hours.

The documentary about the South Park guys buying Casa Bonita is one of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen. It’s called Casa Bonita Mi Amor! Believe it’s on Paramount +

Recently started watching the "Body Cam" series on HBO Max. It's incredible. I started with the last season and am working back to the first season. This show is so good. Unbelievable footage and incredible stories.

Kanopy is a gold mine for all sorts of movies but documentaries in particular. Best part is it's free (with a library card and library that participates).

A few months ago I watched Emma and Eddie: A Working Couple (not can't post pics b/c the cover violates board rules).

quote:

Emma and Eddie live two lives: one on social media and one in real life. The webcam couple is out to save their marriage by starting their own adult web-studio in Eastern Europe.

This movie is just a display of toxic people. Watch the opening scene (there is no nudity it's just the couple towards the end of their relationship interacting with each other in a way that nobody would consider healthy). If you're intrigued, then keep going. If not, quit. This is story of a couple comprised of two broken, toxic people having their relationship melt down.

The Thin Blue Line is a classic documentary by Errol Morris. A guy named Randall Adams gets railroaded by the Dallas authorities in a murder case. Great documentary.

An older one I always recommend for music docs.

Unusual and very interesting. The main guy, Paul Pena, originally wrote and recorded Jet Airliner.
