Some actors are complete fricking morons and believe everything they do is going to launch them to superstardom. Actors with real talent probably know with pretty good accuracy when they have dropped a turd.

A lot of Nic Cage films are like this.
Although to be fair, he seems to really enjoy being in bad films as it lets him have fun and be super hammy.
