So I watched the payday one expecting it to be way more egregious.

From what I can tell the guy saw loopholes in the law, saw consumer demand, and then made a product that met that demand. It says clearly on the first line of the agreement that "your loan consists of 1 payment of X due at your next paycheck," which is not ambiguous at all. People dumb enough not to figure that shite out isn't on Tucker. I went back and paused when they showed the agreement and it is pretty easy to comprehend.

It seems he followed the rules (albeit dumb rules that the Indian tribes get away with), but is being punished for basically out scheming them. Although maybe there was some actual illegal stuff he was doing, but the episode didn't really get into that. I've tried searching on Reddit but it is just them creaming themselves over him going to jail. No surprise since it a liberal site.

It just seems they came up with some very vague charges and kept him form being able to get a real lawyer so they could have someone to toss to the wolves because he'd be an easy a-hole villain to the public.

Yeah I thought the payday loan one would be more egregious. I kind of feel bad for the guy especially since there are a million other pay day loan companies that do the same thing.

But he and his attorney are also clearly full of shite. You don’t structure your contracts like that, and go into peoples bank accounts to deduct fees without more notice, and have layers of shell companies protected by Indian sovereignty if you’re just “providing a service.”

There wouldn’t have been a problem had they just done normal loans, but making 30% on those loans doesn’t make them rich. Making 300% does. And the company clearly intended to hide the ball from poor, dumb, desperate people who can barely read.

Does that warrant time in prison? Idk. Maybe not. But if the gov’t is going to be serious about enforcing this stuff someone had to be the first person prosecuted

Just watched the maple syrup one.

That story would make a great dramady type movie ala Bernie (the Jack black movie set in east Texas).

Did people die? That sounds like it would make a great next series for Fargo.

Except all the people involved are obese and speak French.

It was a very interesting episode though.
