The only ones that will be fricked will be the alien babes Shatner runs into.

No, I remember a movie from back in the 70's or 80's about a man who builds his own rocket ship. It's a lot like the movie The Astronaut Farmer, but it came out much earlier. For the life of me, I can't find it. I think it might have been a TV movie.

That's one of the best scenes in any Star Trek film. I remember seeing it at the theater and it was pretty awesome on the big screen with Magic Carpet Ride as the launch music (even if it wasn't the superior Steppenwolf version).

You might be thinking of Salvage 1 with Andy Griffith. A junk collector with plans to recover items from the Apollo moon landings.

In Destination Moon an early 1950s movie a private company built a manned moon rocket. Of course, the government tried to prevent its launch.

YES! I didn't remember it as a series. I think all I saw was the premiere TV movie.

Yep. That's definitely it.

I think they could determine that just by getting about 5 minutes of our internet.

Salvage One.

Andy Griffith builds a rocket in his junkyard (as I recall)
