So I’ve stopped at the end of season 3 because I’ve heard the 4th season is trash. Should I just skip season 4?

S4 is weaker, but there are definitely still some great moments and episodes in it though. And I've found it's nowhere near as bad on rewatch when you can binge it. Last time I rewatched the series, I almost didn't even notice the lull in S4 at all.

it's a shame that the new fans haven't seen the 1st D&D episode from season 2.

The puppet episode was money though.

And that was one of my least favorites. That's what is so great about Community, even its misses are hits with someone.

The S1 paintball episode is straight up incredible. Then they did it again for S2, and a two-parter. And those were also pretty great. Then you think they couldn't revisit the paintball thing again, and not only do they do it again in S3, but again in S4 AND again in S6. And they still made it work. I remember each time being disappointed in the beginning of the episode that they were doing it again, only to be very pleasantly surprised at the end of the episode with how well they did with it.

One of my favorite shows all time.

Not sure of my GOAT episodes, but S1 paintball (Modern Warfare) may be it. Either that or Pillows and Blankets/Civil War one...that two-episode arc with the pillow/blanket forts was incredible too.

Agreed. It's criminal that it was removed. IIRC, during my last rewatch, I watched that episode like two weeks before it was removed.

I don't recall a season 3 paintball episode.

Season three, episode 19. Although I guess maybe I shouldn't count that one as it was in a flashback (seen here, and they even handle that well by saying it just feels forced). So let's just roll with four episodes then. And they handled them all really well.

On my first watch through I hate the entire Chang dictator story line (and still do) but when I rewatched it a few times that plot didn’t take up as much time as I thought it did so it’s not that bad, and there’s still a couple great episodes mixed in during that part

Great episode but also the point where Pierce because irredeemable and they just made him such an a-hole from that point on. (Likely because he was such an a-hole on the set)

He was just kind of a big weight on the show during his last season.

But that was Pierce’s best episode as well

Again: Invest in physical media so that they can't do this to you.

Yeah that is what stood out to me the most during rewatches. The whole Chang thing didn't feel as prevalent as it did during the original run.

Looking at an episode list, S4 has lots of solid episodes, and the Changnesia thing seems pretty periphery:

- History 101 - Ice cream history class; Abed going nuts; Shirley and Annie pranking.
- Paranormal Parentage - the group searching all around Pierce's creepy mansion.
- Conventions of Space and Time - weird IST dude tries to steal Abed from Troy; Jeff tries to bang the hot fan; Annie plays "Mrs. Winger" at the hotel.
- Alternative History of the German Invasion - same foosball Germans from before; when Chang first comes back (as Kevin).
- Cooperative Escapism in Familial Relations - Jeff meets his dad and brother; Shawshank-style narration of Thanksgiving dinner at Shirley's.
- Advanced Documentary Filmmaking - Abed's doc about Changnesia. This was the first huge lean into that story angle IIRC, and it wasn't even a bad episode. It had Troy and Annie playing Partner and Hoolihan.
- Economics of Marine Biology - they try to recruit the whale/rich kid; Troy and Shirley join the PE Coach class; Abed creates a fraternity (Delta Cubes).
- Herstory of Dance - Sophie B Hawkins dance; Abed goes on two dates but ends up liking the coat check girl (Brie Larson).
- Intro to Felt Surrogacy - balloon ride/puppet episode.
- Intro to Knots - Christmas party at Jeff's place where they kidnap the professor (Malcolm McDowell) to try to get a better grade.
- Basic Human Anatomy - Shirley/Annie fight over valedictorian; Abed/Troy do the Freaky Friday bit so Troy can dump Britta.
- Heroic Origins - they're all connected through their history. This was the end of the Changnesia story.
- Advanced Introduction to Finality - Jeff's imagined paintball episode.

So the Changnesia/Kevin thing was around for about 2/3 of the season, but was only the main focus for an episode or two max. Otherwise, it was just a story that was there. And some of those above are really good episodes.

I find that I hated the "Chang dynasty" angle in the second half of S3 more than anything in S4, but even that angle was only about four episodes in S3 (one of which is one of the GOAT episodes in the the 8-bit video game episode where they are playing for Pierce's inheritance, and the episode doesn't have anything to do with Chang). Also, for whatever reason, I thought Troy left toward the end of S4. But he doesn't leave until S5E5 (well after Pierce).

I really wish they would have continued the Troy/AC school angle for longer, but that ended in the last episode of S3 as well.

Man, reading about all these episodes makes me want to rewatch it again (and it's only been about a year or less since my last one).

John Goodman was great. The AC cult thing should've went on longer.

And the epic pillow fort multi-parter. Loved that shite.

i'd rather it be because of blackface than the moniker 'fat' neil

but at any rate, it's dumb.

We all agree that Abed and Pierce are the two best characters from the study group right?
