Coming Dec 18th. I am guessing they are gonna lose a ton of money with this decision.

It was originally supposed to go straight to netflix. I believe it was part of Eddie Murphy's deal with them.

The article said it was suppose to go theaters. I figured it would lose money since it would go straight to streaming.

If this in any way is scared of its own shadow, it’s NOT beef jerky time.

I was thinking Trading Places, but still.

Amazon purchased the film from Paramount for $125 million, I doubt it was going to gross that in cinemas.

Dang. I was hoping to be able to watch that in theaters.

I’m pumped because I can’t wait to see this, the original is one of those movies I probably watched 100 times.
But I am bummed as to what this means for theaters going forward. I know at some point society will stop having to worry about Covid, but if theaters shutter too much longer due to lockdowns, no new releases, or audiences just not showing up, it won’t be as easy as just flipping a switch to bring them back.
I think movies like this and Bill and Ted are fine being seen at home and not on the big screen, but some just won’t ever be the same (Top Gun 2, WW 84, Ghostbusters reboot) without that theater experience imo.
Just sucks not knowing the long term ramifications for an industry that all of us have loved our whole lives and one that I certainly hope our kids will get to experience as well.

I wonder if sports and theaters are in this boat together.
