I'm excited for this one

Show 'em who's boss.

The new HBO Original Limited Series #ThePenguin premieres September 19 at 9 pm ET on @StreamOnMax, and then Sundays at 9 pm ET starting September 29.

@Variety

A masterful examination of criminality, “The Penguin” is twisted, disturbing and deeply enthralling.

‘The Penguin’ Review: Cristin Milioti Steals HBO’s Too-Familiar ‘The Batman’ Spinoff Right Out From Under Colin Farrell's Beak

I’m here to tell you -- and no one is more surprised than me, I assure you -- that if you skipped The Penguin, you’d be making a big mistake, and missing out on one of the best television series of the year.

@RamasScreen

THE PENGUIN series floored me. A near perfect mobster story that lived up to everything it promised. Gritty, compelling, vicious. With some psychological thriller embedded in its ferocious power struggle. Colin Farrell & Cristin Milioti fired on all cylinders.

The Penguin review: "Features one of the best performances in Batman’s on-screen history"

More gangster saga than comic book adaptation, The Penguin is a fresh take on its titular villain, but it’s Cristin Milioti who really shines as the brutal and captivating Sofia Falcone.

The Penguin Review: Colin Farrell Is Excellent In A Dark Series That Probably Should've Been A Movie

'The Penguin' is a masterclass on integrated storytelling across different media. A crime drama set in the world of Reeves’ Batman, the show utilizes its setting extremely well and shows how the detritus of conflict creates a power vacuum that everyone is eager to fill.

The Penguin is the spiritual Sopranos sequel we didn't know we needed

quote:

THE PENGUIN is good! Colin Farrell is predictably terrific but he almost gets the show stolen from him by a powerhouse Cristin Milioti. The best thing: It doesn't feel like homework, just feels like a solid little gangster series. My review @inversedotcom:

quote:

@FandomWire

The Penguin: 8/10

#ThePenguin is exactly what fans needed. Colin Farrell is a tour de force, giving one of the greatest comic book performances of all time. It’s a crime story in the vein of The Sopranos with fantastic performances and a compelling visual style.

quote:

@screenrant

The show packs a lot into the 8-hour run-time, offering surprisingly heartfelt moments alongside the violence, twisting narrative, and bloody violence, and it's a strong addition to Matt Reeves' Batman universe. It manages to do what Lauren LeFranc clearly set out to achieve, and remains refreshingly different, despite the easy comparisons to other prestige TV shows on the broader level.

And of course, indiewire can't help themselves

Yea I'm pumped for this one. I'm already all in. I was a bigger fan than most of the new Batman, and I'm not a big comic book movie guy. Love adding a legit series in the universe not some corny CW show.

It has the advantage of following up the new BS Joker non musical musical, that I will not pay to see. This, definitely would.

Wtf?

Colin Farrell doing the role made famous by Burgess Meredith & Danny DeVito but pointing out the obvious gets DVs?

OK!

I didn't downvote you because that was one of the very few normal posts you've ever made, but what was weird about the choice? Colin Farrell is a great actor, don't see what's what's weird about it.

Totally agree. His acting isn’t the issue. But he’s genuinely seen as an attractive man (no homo) while Penguin ( Oswald Cobblepot) is seen as an odd or even deformed freak.

It’s not a knock on either the actor or the choice to cast him. He’s clearly got great villain ability so it’ll be interesting to see his version. Just not what many would have put at the top of the list. Brilliant if it works, actually.

The probable bad taste left in the mouth of those that watch the musical will make The Penguin look much better by comparison.

I know it's not necessary for him to show up, but considering it takes place right after the movie, it would be weird NOT to have Batman around.
