Watched a few years ago and don’t understand the hype. Did not like at all.

I think it’s one of the best movies every made - but one has to have a penchant for old movies - I raised my girls watching these so they can do it - my doctor wifey can’t watch a movie older than 10 years or so - unless it’s a classic like wedding crashers or old school etc - so I get if it’s now your bag either

To me CK is brilliant story telling and the end to me is extremely cathartic and so many great movies were modeled after this - you can now see how influential this was…

I’ll up you one Rosebud!

Understand it was a hit piece on Hearst. He went after Wells and really hurt his career.

Sort of like what Frank tried to do to Puzo.

Very much like. Solid take.

I like Kane for its importance to cinema, demonstrating Well’s genius, and it’s a good story well told. That said, I prefer The Third Man to it and Casablanca to them both.

In 2015 – 74 years after its release – CITIZEN KANE screened at Heart Castle for the very first time. Tickets for this benefit screening, which consisted of 60 attendees, cost $1,000 each.

Sounds cool and all but....this is the Castle's movie theater....

If you're just getting into classic movies it's not the movie I would start with.

Compared to Casablanca, it’s pretty meh. Citizen Kane’s reputation among film geeks is with how it pioneered a lot of different shooting techniques. Some of the angles and zooms were completely novel at the time. However, the story and pacing aren’t nearly as legendary. It’s a decent movie, but it doesn’t hold up like “Casablanca”, “Lawrence of Arabia”, or “Gone With the Wind”.

Which would you start with?

That's a good question. I'd probably go with Hitchcock, Rear Window. I'd want to start somebody out with something classic that's in color instead of sending them straight into black and white. Let them get used to the aesthetics of the times first.
