I'm glad people remember that this franchise was originally Child's Play and not the Chucky franchise.

Yeah, I read a few months back where the doll is programmed for evil this time rather than being possessed.

And I think the new TV series they're coming out with on SyFy is gonna continue the original story have the Charles Lee Ray possessed doll. Brad Dourif is voicing Chucky in it, with Dan Mancini and David Kirschner handling the production.

Correct about the series. I believe that the movie studio only has rights to remake the first film. Since the SyFy series is in the works, they decided to go a different direction with Chucky.
I assume the movie studio couldn't get the rights to the name "Good Guy" for the doll, since now it's called a "Buddi" doll.

There are a few “evil AI” movies coming out soon. One is called “AMI” and it’s about an emotionally damaged teenager who forms a bizarre codependent relationship with a Siri-like program on her phone. It convinces her that it’s her dead mother and gets her to kill.
