Since there’s no thread for this episode, decided to start one

What an episode. They just keep raising the bar. The intro with the old woman talking about living through the 1900s in Russia, then the egg baskets, to the animal control, Shcherbina losing it on the phone, and finally to the “most important 90 seconds of your lives.”

Once again, outstanding episode.

That one poor sumbitch who just couldn't resist looking over the rail. THREE TIMES. Then he kept trying to get his face as close to the radioactive contamination as possible.

Yeah, her music has been sparse, but effective. More a sound effect than music, really. It's atmospheric and that atmospheric is death, dread, and overwhelming hopelessness.

Yes. Love the score for this show. Extremely dreary and atmospheric

I was just listening to the score during the credits and thinking how great it is. In the context of the show it is intensified

Weird how that bothered me more than her losing the baby

My husband watches this show but was in the other room watching something else. Had to give him a heads up that he is gonna want to fast forward through some parts of the episode.

Our dog (which is like his child) is dying so we are kinda a little sensitive to dying dogs right now.

Looking at her IMDb, she worked on Sicario and Arrival with Johan Johansson. Can definitely see the similarities with those 2 movies

I think the baby only living a few hours is more of a blessing if you ask me. Considering the massive horrible birth defects that child could have had and then have to live with.

Thanks...just part of loving a dog.

But when they showed the truck scene with the dogs being dumped into the pit I was like "man frick you HBO for showing me that".

That was legitimately a top ten episode of TV all time for me.
Possibly top five.

I felt emotionally wrecked the whole time.
This is the darkest, most grim television show I've ever seen.

I just read an article that the baby’s liver had 28 roentgens in it. Article on firefighter & wife

quote:

I was twenty-three. Two months later I went back to Moscow. From the train station straight to the cemetery. To him! And at the cemetery I started going into labor. Just as I started talking to him—they called the ambulance. It was two weeks before I was due. They showed her to me—a girl. “Natashenka,” I called out. “Your father named you Natashenka.” She looked healthy. Arms, legs. But she had cirrhosis of the liver. Her liver had twenty-eight roentgens. Congenital heart disease. Four hours later they told me she was dead.
