To be fair, if you go and actually read the audience reviews on RT it’s pretty clear that a shite ton of angry 50+ year old Fox News devotees who haven’t seen the movie gave it a bad review to drag down the average.
I thought it was right in the middle as far as Marvel movies go. It was nowhere near the Avengers movies or Winter Soldier, but it was definitely better than Thor 1/2, Iron Man 3, Hulk and at least a couple others.

For example, already over 40k votes have been cast on IMBD and over 15k on RT. That’s an order of magnitude higher than would generally be expected for a blockbuster movie by the Friday evening of opening weekend. A HUGE proportion of those are the lowest rating possible.
On RT, 70% of the 1 star or less reviews are less than 15 words long.
It’s pretty blatant vote-brigading by people who have been told the movie carries a “political agenda” they don’t like.

The people involved with the film, including Larson, have directly stated they wanted to make the film a "big feminist movie". If you're designing a film to be innately political, then you shouldn't throw a hysterical fit when people are opposed to the film solely as a result of the political themes it espouses.
But it won't stop RT and Youtube from suppressing criticism. Youtube literally made alterations to its algorithm to reduce the visibility of popular videos that are critical of Larson and the film's political messages.

Despite what they may have said or want you to believe, anyone who actually saw the movie should realize just just another cookie cutter Marvel film but with a female lead this time. It’s even less political than BP, whose political slant was way overblown in its own right. And even if it was some huge feminist flick, so fricking what? It’s a goddamn super hero movie, either go see it or don’t. Grown arse men, ironically the same who bitch endlessly about “snowflakes” looking for offense in everything, acting like this over movies is fricking embarrassing. If RottenTomato had any sense they wouldn’t allow user reviews until the movie was released but hey who has time for logic?
Then again this is the same company that took down their little metric to measure how many people wanted to see a movie because apparently too many people said they didn’t want to. I mean why even have it if you aren’t going to accept the negative?
