I mean, is it a lie to say he trusted Goose to not scratch his eye?

While Goose isn't technically a cat it's still funny as hell that his "The last time I trusted someone I lost an eye" story turns out to be him losing it b/c a space cat he was cooing over like a 12 year old kid clawed his face.

Where do you think the other $500 mil is coming from for this to get to a billion plus? Are there still large foreign markets it hasn't opened yet?

You know it'll run for longer than opening weekend, right?

Correct. I'm asking because I don't know which foreign markets are left. I know it opened in China which is #2. So it has made about $250 mil between those two. I'm not saying it won't hit a billion, but it's going to be close. It's going to need some legs.

I guess after weekend number two we'll have a better idea of whether it has a shot at a billion or not. The drop off in China and the US will be a good indication.

If this is a box office watch. With that open, this movie should finish between 425-500. That's pretty damn solid and a little better than I was expecting. This isn't going to take a dive like TLJ did either.

It's getting solid feedback and repeat viewings. I'm having a hard time seeing a way it doesn't hit $1 billion.

It could be close but certainly leaning beyond 500 international. Foreign totals for cosmic/fantasy/hero movies with this big of a budget are typically well above that number.

It's got Dumbo and Shazam coming before Endgame. But those are the only two. So 7 weeks for people to go see it prior to the next Avengers. And the marketing has been perfect in making sure people think it's essential for Thanos going down. So while a movie like Endgame would typically "hurt" another superhero flick, it may actually help it retain some numbers.

That's true, and it is far enough away to where it shouldn't hurt. Shazam will be interesting though because it's getting some positive buzz already. Even that is a month out though.

The first post credit scene is a direct lead in to Endgame. Matter of fact, they probably just lopped the scene out of Endgame and put it right at the end of Captain Marvel.

It's OK. Not the best Marvel movie, not the worst. About the same level as Doctor Strange (Although Doctor Strange had cooler visuals.) I liked it better than Wonder Woman, but there wasn't a scene as good as the "No Man's Land" scene.

Hopefully I can get out and see CM soon, I never go see movies on opening weekend, or even the next one usually, but hope to see it soon.

I'm probably more excited about the original Captain Marvel than this one, but I also really like Zach Levi and the character of Shazam better than CM in all mediums. Because of Shazam! Coming out though I will probably go see CM sooner than I normally would.

I don't know if it gets to $1b, isn't China kinda sexist assholes when it comes to movies, and not really show up if there main character is female? I think it does fine, but to get to $1b CM is going to have to break the female sigma in China.

Amen. I hate the crowds to be honest. The last movie I saw opening weekend was Infinity War because I was afraid of being spoiled.

For what it's worth, I think it has already out performed Wonder Woman in China.

China Box Office: 'Captain Marvel' Takes Flight With $89.3 Million

quote:

Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson, made a heroic start at China's massive box office over the weekend, earning $89.3 million, according to studio estimates.

The tentpole's powerful launch represents Marvel's third-biggest opening weekend ever in the country, behind only Avengers: Infinity War and Captain America: Civil War. It was also China's biggest box office weekend ever in the month of March and Marvel's best stand-alone introduction of a new character, soaring past Black Panther's $66.5 million opening last year (only Sony's Venom and Warner Bros.' Aquaman have debuted new characters to more — $111 million and $93.6 million, respectively).

Captain Marvel more than doubled the China debut of Warner Bros.' Wonder Woman ($38 million), becoming the market's top comic book adaptation featuring a woman in the lead role.

That's a good start, but to break $1b it will have to continue. I'm not against it getting to $1b, I actually hope it does, I'm just saying: the movies that break $1b have killed it in China. It's good to see that CM might be able to break through that

ETA: I was incorrect about needing China, cool cool, hopefully CM keeps it up

Not really. You've got 37 films in the Billion Dollar Club. More than half did less than 100 million in China with a few films not getting any play there at all. Alice in Wonderland being one. Star Wars is always terrible there, not that those movies needed much international help.

ETA: 21 of the 37 made less than 100 million in china. 12 of those 21 made less than 50. 5 of the 37 weren't released there at all.

FWIW, Japan is the only market it's not open in yet. And that's a huge one. Should cross 100 there, too.

No chance. IW only made 33 million in Japan.

Didn't even notice that. So you're right. It won't.

Just saw the Beauty and the Beast and Star Wars did well there. So there's no female lead or cosmic bias there. Ah well.

don't let TRC, Cable, Parmen, or Blueboy see this... luckily they are all the same person, so it shouldn't be hard

Oh, he already knows. He's probably organizing the resistance for a counterattack as we speak. Lower Rotten Tomatoes score incoming.
