Potentially better than Iron Man 1. That's a very high bar-but this is the key part of Roger's overall character arc, something that you can't get into in an ensemble movie like The Avengers. Cap is a man out of time, that's why he is compelling. The fact that he is an inspiration to the MCU, but has the internal struggle of loneliness,self-doubt and desperation. He chooses to stand tall despite his own problems.

If executed to it's potential, The Winter Soldier can be not only the best of Phase 2, but one of the better superhero/comic movies ever.

I'm with Ron on this one. The Winter Soldier story is phenomenal.

Because most people are too jaded for classic, aw shucks Captain America.

It was very much in the style of an old school adventure film, which just doesn't play well with modern audiences either.

Ehh. Not really.

It got dumped on because it took way too long for him to actually get into battle and when he finally did most of it was in a quick montage.

Even with how long the movie was it felt rushed in many places. Minor characters were given paper thin back stories. For example, Neal McDonough and company seemingly appear out of nowhere and then all the sudden are Cap's best buds.

A lot of the CG matting was surprisingly weak. The scene in the factory base as it is exploding and burning down looked like green screen from hell.

Little things like Cap randomly finding Bucky in pretty much the first room he looks in or not even showing us how Cap got out of the exploding factory also added up to detract from the final product.

IMO CA is easily the worst of the Phase 1 flicks and came off as more of an expensive advert for The Avengers than it did it's own movie.

I agree with this, but the pre-Super Soldier Cap stuff was great, as well as the USO show Cap, showing us all that Rogers wants to be a real part of the fight. I thought this was some great character development for Cap,but also gave Evans a chance to shine as the character.

Agreed. If anything, I would have preferred two Cap movies in WWII before The Avengers. The montage left a lot of plot out there.

Maybe a little, but Cap is the field leader strategist type, so a basic understanding of the base layout is to be expected. Technically speaking, He searched for Bucky in the prison cells and was given information from the Commandos about Bucky's whereabouts.

To each his own, after repeated viewings, Iron Man 2 is the most worthless.

I'd like to see more of the Commandos, I wish they could put Dum-Dum into todays S.H.I.E.L.D., maybe they will be in Agent Carter's TV series.

I'm excited! Cap is one of my favorite comic book characters and the winter soldier is a great story line for this movie.

I didn't hate the first Cap movie but I still felt something was missing from it. And I was really disappointed by his portrayal in the Avengers. Hope they can make up for it with this one.

Chis Evans looks jacked too.

Winter Soldier is indeed a great story. Even though I was kind of bummed when they decided to abandon one of the few long standing "rules" in comics. It was about as well done as it could be though so maybe some rules were made to be broken.

Just great. Once again a trailer that utterly destroys pivotal moments in the movie by sticking them in the trailer.

To be fair, most in this thread didn't catch it. Hence the not spoiling the "big bad" talk.

Methuselah, I agree. I was all aboard with "dead is dead", especially as far as the iconic dead characters were concerned but Ed Brubaker changed the rules of that game.

I didn't catch it. I think I was too distracted by the good looking action sequences.

And just went by the comic store today and picked up the Hawkeye that came out last week. Another good one. The way they tell the story in there is really interesting. You get one story over like 6 issues all from different angles each time. It gets a little tough to keep up with sometimes, but makes re-reading a lot of fun.

YGM

ETA: And the first two Hawkeye paperbacks are out. I think it's the first 11 issues. They're only on number 13 now, plus an annual.
