Not sure if I get all the folks that are talking as if his feelings he demostrated in his conversations with Walt as authentic, or relevant even if they were.
Note that Gus didn't apologize for attempting to manipulate Walt through Jesse, just for being so obvious about it. The subsquent conversation from the point of asking him to ride with him to the laundry place (where Walt acted like Christmas came early as he scoped out the equipment) was a ploy of appealing to his professional ambitions. The later bit about a man taking care of his family in spite of their lack of appreciation was just his next bid to get Walt, not necessarily evidence of inner admiration.
And even if it was genuine, if there is someone who has given every indication of being able to separate business and personal emotion, it is Gus. The cousins are still coming for Walt and Gus very well may not protect him once he is done with him.

quote:you could be correct, but I don't know about that, you have wonder what made Gus the person he is today. His advice to Walt has to have come from some guilt or ill fated troubles he himself may have had in his past, and is giving him the advic he needs to hear because his head is definitely not clear, in other words he's unstable like a MF'er right now. And the way he looks at Walt when he is talkin to him is a look more of concern for him spiraling out of control then I just want to use you and let the twins have your arse.
And even if geniune, if there is someone who has given every indication of being able to separate business and personal emotion, it is Gus. The cousins are still comin for Walt and Gus very well may not protect him once he is done with him.
either way, all is speculation, and him getting Walt to realize jesse and sal are slowin you down, pull youself together succeeded, now we will see how far Jesse will go off because he is out of control.

that's what struck me, also
I've been thinking about it today. I can see this potentially with Walt & Gus's brains and demeanor's, they will see opportunity to go national and become a powerful cartel in their own right.

I am more interested to see how Gus will react to Jesse if he tries to make and sell similar product. Although the episode previews suggest it won't get to that point.

I hope they're not around much longer.

Skyler looked like she was starting to have a change of heart til she saw those signed divorce papers.
I thought she actually looked a bit sad and surprised when she saw them. In the scene where she let Walt hold the baby, it looked like she broke down and ran to her bedroom. I believe she was fixing to break off her relationship w/Ted and again become Walt's wife. She is remorseful about her treatment of Walt.

I thought I was a very good episode, Skyler has come to realize that Walt did the cooking for the good of the family. However, she realized it too late and she finally drove Walt away. Seems like she might try to come crawling back as the season progresses.
I wouldn't doubt this. However, I just saw a preview where Skyler was on the phone and she sounded pretty pissed that she's now an "accessory after the fact."

I like how the writers threw Jessie into the dislike side of viewers by reviewing he pissed away Walt's life savings at a strip club.

yeah, the writers are definitely play with out emotions for the characters.
i remember i used to like skylar and hated her sister. this season i hate skylar and like her sister.

On another show, I'd say Hank would not find out about Walt this soon, but I have a feeling Hank is going to learn the truth about Walt in the very near future.

As I said before, I am no PhD, but I think being able to turn all of us against a character we used to love is what sets this show apart from the other offerings out there.
The writing and the acting is beyond what we normally get on TV.
The development of these characters, especially the turning of some of them from good to bad and vice versa, is something that can not usually be achieved in a great two or three hour movie.
Most popular TV programs would not take the chance of alienating their audience by transforming a "good" character into a "bad" one.
The writers of this show revel in this practice and seem to enjoy throwing these twists out there for us to trip over.

This sums up the show for me.

Jessie is not going to get "whacked". He is going to get caught by Hank and spill the beans on Walt. Walt was really stupid for cutting Jessie out on his new enterprise for this exact reason. The ball will eventually be in Hank's court as to what to do. Hank is in a position where he has to bring down Walt to preserve his job, or can Walt make it worth his while to look the other way. I think Hank may eventually be in the toughest position of everyone.

Just some random thoughts I had watching the show on Sunday:
**How stoked was the actor who played Combo, to get called back for another episode? To be on the best show and then be killed off, would be brutal...
**I finally realized that Skyler's lawyer played Lisa's sister on Six Feet Under about halfway through the episode- perhaps I have a thing for Jewish lawyers...
**I'm starting to think that we're going to have a total Kaiser Sose moment when Hank realizes that Walt is Heisenberg. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a heart attack when he puts it all together.
**How ironic is it that the blue meth epidemic never hits if Hank doesn't offer to take Walt along on a drug bust?
**Like many people have said, Gus is the intellectual equivalent of Walt, but far less impulsive and always under control. I also noticed a correlation between The X Files "Smoking Man" and Gus. Then I remembered that Vince Gilligan worked on The X Files, so that explains that....
**God damn, I love this show. There's nothing else out there even close.
