i'm not ready to call it bad television, especially given that it brought resolution to perhaps my favorite series of all time, but, yeah, some of it was way, way out there

You might not like the season, ok fine. But to say is bad television? That's ridiculous.

4>3>5>1>2

Gus and Mike being major players in Seasons 3 and 4 really elevated those two seasons for me.

I really have a hard time ranking 2,3,4......hell even 1.

I love 5A....

I think 5B was the weakest but still damn strong.

-The bathtub through the floor!!!
-The scenes in the desert (bullets through the camper door)(Fire in the desert)
-Walt's first kill...
-Tuco Salamanca
-The junk yard scenes

All great stuff!!!

Of course all of Mike and Gus's scenes were great. Gus's trips to Mexico were highlights of the series (early and late).

Wow what a show.

Why is it ridiculous? People can't have a valid opinion because Breaking Bad is so good?

Thanks for the backup.

If Season 5 was the entire show, I might say, eh it's ok, bad like the rest of television. But as a full narrative arc it stunk, honestly, except for the resolution. but all of the characters and the storylines in 5? Those are either rehashes or filled with awful characters that produced absolutely no emotional complexity. (And this is despite having 2 or 3 of the best scenes of the show)

Look I'm harsh, because, if you notice, I thought Seasons 4 and 3 was pretty epic. Like Lost, it just didn't come through as a full piece of work, and Season 5 was a big reason for that.

Didn't we tussle in some of those? I'll try to find them, but they are buried under my mountain of posts on this board I'm sure.

(Plus, you;d need a recorder, which I never had, for my full rant where I compared it to a Godfather 2 ending if Vito came back from the dead, Micheal actually died, and everything just kind of went on because of Nazi war criminals upsetting the North American Mob Environment.)

i mean, i liked the action and all, but the train heist is ridiculous.

that's fresh on my mind because i am rewatching the series and that was the last episode i saw.

but, i knew what you were saying. i think s5 is better than 95% of what is on the tv, but just because it isn't bad doesn't make it good/great.

i was completely hooked watching s5a & b, but it wasn't as good as 3 and 4, imo.

Because I watched it at least a week or two late, most of my critiques end up in other threads, not necessarily the episode thread.

Search for:

Movie/TV Board
"Walt" or "BB" or "Breaking"
User: me, obviously

That should get you a decent pull of posts and threads of discussion.

If we want to hash it out again, let's do it.

Most of my problems in 5 are with the lack of the great characters (because Mike, Gus, and Hank died), the bipolar and repetitive arc for Jesse ( he went from potentially one of the best characters ever on television maybe ever, to a caricature) and Skylar, and all of the new-ish terrible characters like the drug trafficking dame, Landry and the Neo-Nazis. They just brought the whole thing down for me significantly.

(I also think the Neo-Nazis was a big FU to the whole point of the show, but that's another discussion. I really despise their inclusion.)

Probably my biggest disagreement with most people about the show is that ozymandias was the best episode. I enjoyed it a lot and it was action packed, but still feel like too many things happened in the episode for each scene to be as powerful as it could've been to me. Almost every scene in that episode could've carried its own episode and I often found myself still thinking about the previous scene while new important resolution was occurring.

When they split seasons I rank them seperately. Same goes for The Sopranos.
