They will make it for the Chinese audience. Has anyone noticed that many of these films are "produced" and "financed" by Chinese movie studios nowadays? It's because that market is huge and what that market wants is void of story, plot, etc. but BIG on explosions, monsters, and stupidity.
I suspect this property will only continue it's downward spiral over the next few years.
