Did they talk about his 3rd wife-Katie Lee? IMO, that was the best looking one he had.

I saw the 2 episodes and totally loved it. It tells lot of secrets that not even his hardcore fans knew about.

I think that the documentary could have been perfectly edited into 3 2-hour episodes. As someone else mentioned here, I think that the last hour of the 2nd episode was dragging a bit. I would have liked to see more of his role in USA for Africa for example, his role with providing songs for movies (I believe he released 4 different songs for several films), more coverage with the Face 2 Face tour with Elton and his Russian tour back in 1987.
This way the 2 hour episodes probably would not have felt so long.

Other than that, it was very entertaining. I'm surprised that nobody here has mentioned what an a**hole his dad was.

But Billy's a national treasure.

Just finished part 2. I loved this doc from start to finish. Really great and well done with basically all of the relevant people interviewed and participating.

His daughter (Alexa) looks just like him and not her mom, yet she is gorgeous somehow. I also don’t think I knew he has two more (really young) kids either.

Christie Brinkley still loves that dude. You can tell. The Katie girl, not so much.

I do wish they would’ve gotten into the single he made last year (Turn the Lights Back On). For those unfamiliar, it is excellent. And the video is great too:

This doc was great for us Gen Xers. I grew up listening to Billy but around HS lost touch. I forgot how wild and charismatic he was/is, and his whole NY attitude, and it was cool to go through his catalogue of hits. Also interesting to learn about his rough upbringing and younger life and career. He and it also confronted his past issues perfectly. We were even vacationing in Sag Harbor earlier this year and saw his house there. I wanted to leave a note but didn’t

What a great series. He took about every life event and wrote a song about it. I think that's why his songs resonate so much.

Sad to think he's done with touring.

Watched part 1 last night and loved it, planning part 2 tonight

I've been a big fan since The Stranger was released when I was a freshman in high school.

I didn’t realize how early on in his career he wrote piano man. Crazy that if not for the bad contract, he may not have written it at all

It's a really great testament to making the most of what life throws at you - a point he made earlier in the episode.

Definitely one of the better, if not the best, musician documentaries I've seen

It was fantastic. Just finished it and agree with all the comments on the end dragging a bit. It overall was very well done and really enjoyed it.

Was surprised they really didn’t give any closure for the obvious drinking problems he had. 3 marriages ruined by basically drinking and then Elton John’s comments plus numerous car wrecks. Did he just stop drinking one day or how did he kick the problem? They really avoided that and maybe if was at his request to not go there?

Is he sober now? If not maybe they don’t address it because it’s a problem he still deals with.

I think he said something about Billy’s drinking and needing rehab back when they used to tour together. The doc touched on it briefly and Billy said they had since sort of squashed it.

Something along the lines that he needed to go to ‘real’ rehab or maybe he say ‘Big Boy Rehab’ because Billy didn’t get clean with the first go round.

I thought it was interesting that all of his wife’s called him Bill except Katie. I don’t know why, but that stuck out to me through the whole documentary- who called him Bill vs Billy.

It's amazing how many of his songs are either directly about or inspired by her.

Geezus, you weren't kidding. 90% of his catalogue seemingly was inspired by life experiences with his wives, parents, children, jobs, execs, management etc. Practically no lyrical acting/role-playing. Genuinely confessional.

Biggest reveal for me was Vienna, which was always a beautiful melody to me, but lyrically, I never really connected to. To find out it was written for his forsaken dad, now it all just makes total sense.

It may actually be the best, and the most honest. I think that has a lot to do with it being told by Billy himself instead of just by interviewing other people.
