History of Buy Backs as far as I can remember
BB3 - No jury in BB3 as everyone got to vote. Amy was voted back into the house by the house.
BB6 - Kaysar voted in by America pre-jury.
BB 9 - According to wikipedia, James was evicted and then re-voted into the house when the houseguests were given the choice as to whether or not to readmit the person they just voted out or let America's choice come in (without knowing who that person was). This was done at the beginning of the jury phase, apparently.
BB 13 - Brendan wins comp against Lawon after being voted in buy America to compete against the most recently evicted houseguest. Technically during the jury phase as he became the first member of the jury the following week.
BB 15 - Judd wins baseball themed wall type comp at jury phase to come back.
BB 16 - Nicole wins crapshoot to come back during jury phase.
BB 17 - J Mac wins the standing up, spinning comp to come back at jury phase.
BB 18 - Victor wins the first ever "Battle Back" where the first five houseguests fought in 4 different head to head matches to determine who returned pre-jury. Victor then won the buy back at the jury stage in a wall comp like last week.
Long story, short. Cast members should expect some sort of return to the house from an evicted houseguest. Typically in recent seasons its come during the jury phase; but not surprising to be pre-jury.
Production enjoys competitions because it fills time in their episodes and allows them more control to tinker with the makeup of the house (based on the types of competitions they select and/or how they determine the manner in which people are re-entered into the house).

I'm sure Meagan leaving early expedited the process

I don't think so. We're going to have one less competition for the Battle Back than last year, right?
Glen, Jozea, Victor, Bronte Tiffany
vs
Cameron, Jillian, Cody, and Dominique
So, the show is back on track time wise, Megan's leaving just giving them one less competition to show on Friday. It's taking place at the same point in the season, though (after five houseguests have left).
This Friday episode was on the schedule before the season began, so they're on track with how they planned the season as of right now. Just might have had a different combination of evicted houseguests included.

But that was just the battle back format. Johnny mac coming back was 4 competitors and included in the HOH comp. I guess we will just have to see Thursday at 9-8 central only on CBS!

Once jury starts, at least the last few season, the battle back was to become HOH. Victor last season was the last juror surviving and was almost HOH. It was some endurance comp.

victor won the Wall, to get back in the 2nd time.
day and zakiyah dropped instantly because jury house > playing BB.

What are you responding to here?
This week will be a Battle Back pretty similar to last year. A number of head to head comps with the last person standing re-entering the house.
Johnny Mac, Judd, and Victor (the second time) all returned in competitions where they were competing both to get back in the house but with the possibility of also getting HOH. I'd guess another one of these will occur when there are four people in the jury.

What makes this show so great is it's impossible to tell who's winning this early. The best players start doing their thing later in the game. Except chilltown. They ran that house from the beginning
Chilltown

Nah according to Dom they were unfairly targeted because of their skin color.

I'm telling you they could change up the format

Gentleman's bet on it?
My reasoning is that the Battle Back is a specific thing created last year in which the end result was the winner returned to the house.
Like Battle of the Block in season 16 & 17, they went out of their way to create graphics and name it. The individual comps in it will be different, but it will play out like last year's - otherwise they wouldn't specifically refer to it as The Battle Back.
ETA: I could be wrong, but the fact that it takes place on a special Friday show would seem to suggest that we're in for more than one comp.

That's a good point. I actually thought battle of the block was a cool change up although it did seem like it made it easier to pick off the person you wanted to go home. Victoria the GOAT pawn

What's the over/under if Dom gets evicted she plays the race card to Julie?
Posted on 7/19/17 at 11:12 am to LSUMaverick
-1000 Odds that she brings up race or religion in the post-eviction interview.

have any of the HGs been talking about even the possibility of battle back? seems paul hasnt considered seeing cody back in the house.
will they find out live next thursday?

What pisses me off is that the live feeds will shutdown Thursday, and won't come back up until after Friday's episode. I guess they don't want the live feeders to know who won the battle back until after the Friday show airs.

Her bringing up one or both is one of the most surest bets in the history of ever.

He's considered it and there has been much discussion about it. The plan is to send whoever returns right back out the door.
