Then what in the actual frick is the point of your thread? As I said, the movie has aged fine. You have changed

How does my criticism of his opinion regarding acting nullify the point of this thread?

But you're probably right. I have changed. This thread reminds me of the legendary Lincoln/Douglas "nuh-uh! Uh huh!" debate.

It doesn't hold up, and Bowfinger is awesome. Get over it.

Beverly Hills Cop definitely still holds up today. I watched it a few months ago and it is still as funny as ever.

My dad and I always do the "get the frick out of here/no I can not" in the high pitched voices.

This is from BHC3, but you know where it started.

Here's what you said:

quote:

I don't think ive ever seen a movie that I liked so much as a kid but think is such crap now. The acting is horrible and some of the situations are ridiculous. For example, why would Victor's goons throw Axel through the window of their own office building? And didn't they have a big budget for this? Why is the window so obviously breakaway glass? Murphy is good and his jokes are still funny, but everything around him is terrible.

quote:

Do you really think time has anything to do with acting quality.

quote:

Give me one example of acting that was once considered good but is not "by today's standards." I can give you plenty of examples of 80s acting that are still revered today and always will be.

If you can't see the contradictory points you're making, then you are functionally retarded.

If acting is constant, either the movie was bad in the 80s because the acting was bad or your expectations of acting have changed as you grew up, meaning you've changed. The film is the same. You can say shite like: "Star Wars doesn't hold up" because it is so effects driven and effects have improved by an amazing degree (in large part thanks to Lucas). Everyone knew the acting in Star Wars sucked, but they were in awe of the overall plot and the effects. If you were to say Star Wars doesn't hold up because the acting sucks, you'd be an idiot.

I didn't say the acting was horrible because it was the 80s. I just said it was horrible period. The other guy excused it by saying that acting was somehow different in the 80s because of time or whatever.

Serge is still solid though. Good call.

I saw it recently for the first time. Was Ok. Murphy was likeable but Not that funny, and the theme music must've played 15 different times. Def didn't seem worthy of sequels.

I still enjoy it when I watch it on television randomly. I can't honestly say whether I would like it as much if I were 20 years younger and watched it for the first time today though.

RE: this quote:

I've never seen such a huge blockbuster turn into such crap over time.

It isn't a special effects driven movie - so if you thought it was good and now think it is bad that's just a "you changed" issue. Also, there are tons of blockbusters (more than 50% IMO) which are really not very good movies so I guess I'm not that receptive to this argument period.
