I think people misunderstood this thread

This isn’t the best cameos thread

It’s the best actors who basically have made a career on bit parts like James Rebhorn and Richard Jenkins

...he was only nominated. Network garnered nine nominations with 4 wins (winning all but best supporting actor of the acting trophies, plus best original screenplay).

The 3 "big" award films of the year were Network, Rocky, and All the President's Men. The Rocky vote was split (Meredith and Young) on best supporting actor, or else Meredith would likely have run away with it. Jason Robards got the nod over, almost certainly Laurence Olivier in Marathon Man, with Ned Beatty being the fifth nomination.

Makes you weep at the current state of acting - those FIVE performances were up for the same award.
