Just starting Ken Burns' Baseball, which has been great thus far.

Any other recs?

I'm thinking about writing a nonfiction book on some historical aspect of sports and could use some inspiration. I have the first volume of 30 for 30 and I'll probably order volume 2 here soon.

Check out some HBO docs.

The Bird/Magic and Lombardi ones were outstanding.

Thought this was pretty good if you don't compare it to Hoop Dreams, has a LSU connection as well.

Almost any of the 30 for 30 episodes from espn. I really liked the ricky williams and death penalty episodes

My favorite 30 for 30 was Into the Wind, which was directed by Steve Nash. Maybe it meant a little more to me because I am runner though, but either way it was really good.

Watching Ken Burns myself.

Inning By Inning about Augie Garrido is supposedly highly entertaining.

Tyson is supposedly really good.

Harvard Beats Yale 29-29 is pretty good and includes commentary from Tommy Lee Jones.

The Best that Never Was is probably the best sports doc that I've seen. It's almost perfect.

Most any 30 for 30 doc is great, but especially The Two Escobars.

The Miracle on Ice doc on done by HBO is fantastic, and for something a little lighter, the Michigan/OSU Rivalry doc also done by HBO is great.

Magic & Bird is awesome.

Tyson is very good, though some complain that it's the same Tyson stuff, and that there's not much that's new in it.

Bigger, Faster, Stronger* is one that I own but haven't watched yet. I need to watch it.

And though it's not "sports", it's competition-based, so I'll always be willing to throw in King of Kong: Fistfull of Quarters. Incredibly entertaining doc.

Agreed on The Two Escobars.

I also like 16th Man but I am a huge rugby fan...

I'm with Pariah. Hoop Dreams is the best sports doc ever. It's just great.

There are other very good docs, I personally love the HBO doc on the 72 Olympic basketball team, but seriously... Hoop Dreams.
