Did anyone mention Over the Edge? They played this all the time on TV in the 80s. May be considered a junior high movie though.

How many of you have even seen it?

Those two are some of most popular of this generation. They are at the top whether you think so or not.

It's funny how you only think your opinion matters. You're a doucher.

Just because a movie is popular does not mean it's good.

Nsync was very popular, are you going to try to argue that was good music?

I have taken the advice of other posters in this thread and adjusted my list accordingly.

Those people know something about movies though, which is why I respect their opinion.

You on the other hand don't know shite.

Your opinion not mattering =/= me thinking only mine does.

Not that I agree or disagree with his list but "most popular" doesnt maintain that its the best.
You really cant compare a film as well made as Bfast club or FBDO to a gross out comedy type like American pie. I loved the 1st but they arent in the same class.

These are high school movies. They arent oscar winning films. American Pie and Superbad are on people's list because most people can relate. Pretty realistic to how kids talked in high school too.

DS doesn't know shite.

This is the second time in as many days that I've exposed you as a simple minded fool.

Lol how exactly? You claim you know so much on a message board and you think people honestly take you seriously?

Yesterday all you blabbed about was how you were a 247 LSU fan. Great exposure there bro.

ok now Donnie Darko is an interesting one.

I counted BTTF and later Hoosiers not only because high school was the backdrop but because it dealt largely with high school issues and archetypes (Hoosiers less so but I felt like for the sake of consistency I needed to count it if i counted BTTF)

My gut says that Donnie Darko doesn't quite meet that standard but if someone wants to make an argument as to why it does I will listen and possibly adjust accordingly.

You have contributed absolutely nothing to either discussion except a latent anti-intellectualistic attitude that doesn't really impress me.

If you can explain to me why american pie or superbad are good movies other than stupid people like them I'll be happy to listen.

marginalizing an entire section of people because they are entertained by low budget comedy is pretty judgmental. I enjoyed American Pie for what it was. Im not wanting to give it an Oscar or anything.

AU- Im not disagreeing with you that movies like American Pie touch on relatable terms with most HS youth but Id argue that its still not on the same level with 5 on "his favorite" list.
Dazed and Confused was a great example. Fantastic acting( except Mitch Kramer,he sucked).Great script. Id submit probably more relatable to actual HS experiences IMO. Plus it didnt go "gross" low rent schtick to get laughs.

You're right, allow me to modify my statement:

entertained is one thing

saying it's a great movie is something else

Donnie Darko is a troubled high school kid who falls for the new girl (and vica versa). He seems like the unpopular weird one with his own group of friends and he has a rival, cool kid student that picks on him some. He has a sister who is also in high school and is trying to get accepted into Harvard. He also has a kid sister in middle school. Barrymore plays the unconventional teacher while Beth Grant plays the strict, by the book antagonist teacher. All those things make it look on the surface like your typical high school movie.

The Real Top 5
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Hoosiers
American Graffiti
Blackboard Jungle
The Lords of Flatbush
(But your list may be different. That's ok - no accounting for taste...)

i looked through the whole thread wondering if anyone would even mention this movie. I saw this when i was very young on vhs, and genuinely thought it was about what Fonzie did with his other friends when not hanging out with the Cunninghams.
