While trying not to focus on the actor, but more on the character, who do you think is the best or your favorite western character?

My favorites would be (in no particular order)

Gus McCrae
Matthew Quigly
The Man with No Name
Trinity

The problem with western characters is that too many of them were whitewashed goody-two shoes types before Clint Eastwood and the like came along, so add in Eddie Munny from Unforgiven... honorable mention to the "preacher" in Pale Rider.

Ethan in the searchers was a rare, darker character in that day and age.

Gus is a great choice

Preacher

The Stranger

Obviously I'm a huge Eastwood fan. Wayne was great, Eastwood was better
