I love the performance but not even sure it's his best.

The job he did as Lincoln was incredible

This is one I don't really understand. All he did was talk in a weird voice. Far from the best acting job of all time. I'm surprised he won an Oscar for it.

If he deserved an Oscar for that role, then he should have received one for Apocalypse Now as well. He does basically the same thing in both movies: be fat and mumble some unintelligble gobbledygook. Heck, while I don't think either performace was Oscar-worthy, I'd say that his role in Apocalypse Now was much more interesting.

He was awesome in My Left Foot as well, but he had the crutch (no pun intended) of playing someone with a disability, which to some extent is easier because you just focus on exaggerating that aspect. I may be in the minority, but I was more impressed with his Bill The Butcher, because there was a lot more nuance involved. He made that role fascinating because of what he left for you to read between the lines and how he had you waver between admiration and disgust. Granted, I think he did a good job of making you feel for Christy Brown at the same time that you realized he was really kind of an arsehole too.

Philip Seymour Hoffman's little role as Lester Bangs in Almost Famous is a gem as well. I don't know if he's even in it long enough to constitute a "supporting actor". But whatever you call being the best in a tiny role, he was that in Almost Famous.

Jackie Gleason - Smokey and the Bandit.

Sean Penn - Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Especially now that we know what an angry a-hole he is.

Can't believe it took eight pages for Sheriff Buford T. Justice. Definitely one of the best comedic performances of all time. Was coming to post this.

An awesome actor. Why do people let their political opinions taint the obvious (I´m not saying you, but he is the butt of many a bashing on here)?

Christoph Waltz - Inglorious Basterds

First one that came to mind for me. Every time he spoke in that movie, I was on the edge of my seat. Best dialogue I have ever seen.

Matthew McConaughey as Rust Cohle on True Detective was probably the best acting I have ever seen. Hell, Woody Harrelson was awesome too.
