Ben Jones who played Cooter on the 'The Dukes of Hazard' has died

Jones was a unique individual.

As a student at UNC in the 60s he was very involved in the civil rights movement, participating in sit-ins and marches. Later in life he was the Chief of Heritage Operations for the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He served in Congress as a Democrat, but was very conservative and, along with Sam Nunn and Zell Miller, was one of the last few of the old school southern Democrats.

Besides acting he also took a shot at a music career. He put out an album of covers that included Let The Good Times Roll, and Thunder Road

When I was a kid we lived in his Congressional district. When he first ran he carried a stack of autographed Dukes cast photos and, if I remember correctly, even some Catherine Bach/Daisy Duke posters that he would hand out while door to door campaigning.
