Rewatching the series this week. It makes me hate even more what they’ve done with the show recently. Tenet and Smith and Capaldi are SO MUCH better it’s not even funny.

And don't forget Eccleston. It was HE who got me into the modern Who era from the very start.

We started watching too. They're good, but it's easy to get burnt out. Might have to look up a guide of skippable episodes.
Also, Donna suuuuucks.

I haven't watched any of the new Doctor, but I don't have high expectations.
We still have to finish the final Capaldi season. Love his version of the Doctor, but some of his storylines feel like a real chore to get through.

I had to stop after Smith. I couldn't reconcile the guy who played John Frobisher as the 12th Doctor; thanks Torchwood Children of Earth.
So thankfully I managed to disengage before it go worse (or so I've heard).

Definitely preferred Tenet and Smith over Capaldi, but that might have simply been a preference of tone.
I honestly don't know if Whitaker is bad, or if the writing she's stuck with is bad (or both). I just know we quickly lost interest as the show got more political. I don't really care which lean a show takes - unless it is ABOUT politics (like West Wing or whatever), limit the amount of political talk. The more fantastic the show gets (like science fiction or fantasy), there should be less real world political analogies IMHO.
Donald Trump vs The Doctor or Joe Biden vs Captain America hold negative 100% interest to me.

I tried watching Whitaker but quit early on. I wanted Moss from IT crowd, but Whitaker was excellent in broadchurch so I gave it a shot. The writing and the directorial style are so bad that no doctor could save it.

While I don't think it's quite so bad, the overall quality is a consistent "meh". I don't think the new showrunner has hit any of the lowest points that Davies was capable of (while also producing some of absolute best episodes), but there have maybe been 2 episodes through these latest 2 seasons that were at all memorable. Jodie Whitaker is absolutely not the issue.

Capaldi was great all the way until his final season when they force Bill on us. I’ve tried repeatedly to watch the new one and just can’t get into it. I might try again when they bring Captain Jack back.

Capaldi faded for me pretty quickly when they gave him a teenage crush on Clada.
Got weirdly possessive in a way that is not characteristic of any predecessors.
New Who peaked w/ Smith, IMO. There was a fairly natural character arc from Eccleston to him. Then.... Whitaker is not the only problem with the current show, but it's basically a different show except for the element of time travel.

No... there have been more than 2. But they are memorable not for how good they were but for how incredibly stupid they were.
For example, they attempt to simply rewrite the entirety of Dr. Who. Just... simply... rewrite it.
And... who knew that Rosa Parks needed Dr. Who's help to get on the bus. Just laughably stupid ideas.
And they couldn't resist giving us one more "notDonaldTrump" last night.

So this is where you should no longer argue, as you just announced that you have no idea what you're talking about. You just repeated dumb YouTuber comment style crap that has no basis in reality. The doctor's history has been fluid since 1963. This latest change wasn't nearly as big as a couple of Moffat's changes since 2010 (adding an entire fricking doctor to the past time-line?). It wasn't nearly as big as a couple of Davies's changes since 2005 (eliminating the entire time lord race?). Chibnall basically tried to one-up those 2 by just repeating them. It wasn't as big as adding Davros and changing the whole nature of the Daleks, or adding Ramona and changing everything we knew about the time Lords. Adding to this history is something every showrunner since the early 60s has done. You obviously didn't like it, or you were told not to like it, and that's fine. But the fact that it happened shouldn't bother anybody, because it's nothing new.
And that's not how the Parks episode played out. The Doctor has a long history of "historical episodes", like since the third ever set of episodes. For better or (usually) worse, chibnall likes these stories and keeps trying to pull them off.
To be quite frank, if you didn't enjoy the India episode, an episode that played very much like and hit similar emotional notes as many of the best episodes in the Davies run, I don't understand why you're watching this show.

I can believe you just did some quick google research to come up with your contrarian take.
The Chibnall era has sucked.

Yeah... his comments were so dumb I didn't feel as if they warranted a response.
