100% it is. A lot of it is nostalgic but it’s not that bad

Agreed. No one is going to argue it's a great movie, but it's a pretty great slice of pop culture from its time.

The soundtrack is full of awesome tracks. The electric and neon colors gave it some visual vibrancy beyond the darkness of the prior Burton films. Carrey was at the apex of his popularity. Val was a stud. Nicole was arguably never hotter. Even Drew Barrymore and Debi Mazar looked delicious.

I re-watched it earlier this year, and it holds up as a sweet time capsule of the mid-90s. This poster is still in my old bedroom at my parents' house...

It is such a good song. Hard to believe he was a one hit wonder, honestly.

But considering young me played the shite out of the Space Jam soundtrack, Seal is also known as "Fly Like an Eagle" guy to me even though that was a cover.

????

By my count, in the US alone, Seal had 5 singles to chart (relatively) high in the Top 100 singles chart.

In order of release.

1991- Crazy - US Hot 100 Singles Peak - 7
1994- Prayer for the Dying - Hot 100 Peak - 21
1995 - Kiss From a Rose - Hot 100 Peak - 1
1995 - Don’t Cry - Hot 100 Peak - 33
1996 - Fly Like An Eagle - Hot 100 Peak - 10

And he had a few other singles show up in the UK and European charts.

Seriously, don’t tell me you people haven’t heard Seal’s “Crazy” before.

Seal II (the album that had Prayer for the Dying and Kiss From a Rose on it) was somewhat highly anticipated at its release because “Crazy” had been a Top 40 smash hit in 1991.

“Kiss From a Rose” actually had a delayed hit status. It was originally released as early as February 1994 on the The Neverending Story 3 soundtrack (which obviously came and went without much notice). And when the album Seal II came out later in 1994, it had small blip on radio when the single was released.

But it wasn’t until the single was re-released for Batman Forever in June 1995 that it finally started taking off.

I mean, I suppose it’s fair to have your memory skewed by the shear out-sized popularity of “Kiss From The Rose,” but “Crazy” was #7 on the US singles charts. It’s not like he was like Dexys Midnight Runners*, with one and only one single that cracked the Top 100, let alone the Top 50 or the Top 10.

Edit: *I originally used Hanson as my example until I just looked up that Hanson had another single other than “Mmm Bop”that charted at #9 on the US charts and was certified Gold. So, even Hanson doesn’t actually count as a “One Hit Wonder.”

(Although, this second hit single for Hanson, “I Will Come to You,” almost surely was piggy-backing off the success of “MMM Bop,” which can’t be said for “Crazy” or “Prayer for the Dying,” which pre-dated “Kiss from a Rose” by months or years.)

I was a huge Kilmer fan back then and was psyched over this one, but Schumacher wanted too much to pull this back to the hokeyness of the series and Carey basically turned the entire thing into Ace Ventura: Riddler.

The soundtrack was awesome and if the entire movie hadn't become a Carey vehicle, Kilmer may have had more room to fit into the role. But... eh.

Batman Returns is the one I've come back to as underrated. I hated it when it came out, but it's grown on me.

Batman Returns is the best Batman movie of them all.

The Batman Forever take in this thread is objectively bad. That movie blows.

I honestly really enjoy that film. I don't like recasting Batman though. If you're going to do that, it needs to be a new version of the character imo. They should have definitely stopped after this film though. Batman & Robin is garbage.

Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones chewing the scenery…

They both absolutely nailed their roles, but Carrey's Riddler was a little over the top. I think a Riddler that took some of Jim Carrey's Riddler and some of the Riddler from The Batman would be the best Riddler. Carrey's was too campy and the one from The Batman was too serious. There has to be a happy medium somewhere. The guy on the Gotham TV show honestly did it best.

Although I do love Arnold as Mr. Freeze.

He did ok in the role, but this was a terrible representation of that character. The only villain they got right in that film was Poison Ivy.

Bane in Batman & Robin was simply insulting. A truly awful depiction.

Overall I enjoyed, just a movie that you can watch and not have to think about it. Just enjoy the action. But I'll never forget or forgive they had him smile as Batman. It was just weird and out of character for me. I would still say that Clooney was barely worst as Batman, IMO.
