Billy Bob Thorton has been putting in good work for years. From his work with the Coen Brothers in The Man Who Wasn’t There and Intolerable Cruelty to his recent turn on the television series Fargo, Thorton has had some high profile turns. But there is no role he is more synonymous with than as conman Willie Soke, aka the eponymous Bad Santa. There has been talk for years that a sequel was in the works, and now it appears all the pieces have finally fallen into place.

Miramax confirmed by press release that production will start in January 2016 with the aim to have the sequel in theaters for the 2016 holiday season. Strangely, they do not mention a director, though Terry Zwigoff directed the original film. But as we previously reported, Doug Ellin has been part of the sequel discussion.

The first movie did quite well with critics and audiences alike, and I still hear people make references to it to this day. That being said, it is interesting that a sequel is being made twelve years after the first film came out. Now the fact that there will be a sequel isn’t an unwelcome development, but the reservation is that not only may there not be as big of an audience for it as there might have been a few years ago, but it may be hard to replicate the success of the first one. However, Dumb and Dumber To showed that an unasked for sequel released years after the in-high-regard original can prove popular, even without critical acclaim.

Willie: You know, I think I've turned a corner.

Marcus: Yeah? You fricking petites now?

Willie: No, I'm not talking about that. I beat the shite out of some kids today. But it was for a purpose. It made me feel good about myself. It was like I did something constructive with my life or something, I dunno, like I accomplished something.

Marcus: You need many years of therapy. Many, many frickin' years of therapy.

I'm talking about firing a little black midget. A small, colored, African-American small person. That's what I'm talking about. I'm talking about your face all over goddamn USA Today, that's what I'm talking about. I'm talking about 150 of these little motherfrickers all over the sidewalk out there. Holding picket signs and using bullhorns and shite like that. Screaming and hollering your name out. Unfair practices, get me?

I celebrate this film every Christmas.

Not sure they can top the magic of the original, but I don't mind the attempt.

Will there be sandwiches?

I took an acting class in college and my final was this monologue

quote:

Thank you for giving that letter to the cops. I forgot I asked you to do it, but it's a good thing you did or Santa's little helper would have plugged his arse. Now the cop's know I wrote it, whick is gonna keep my arse out of jail. That, plus everyone agreeing that the Phoenix police department shooting an unarmed Santa was even more fricked up than Rodney King.
