Whats funny is that I feel like the prequels would be huge in china today with all the simple arse dialogue and cgi overload

Pikachu should be #1 next weekend. It'll then compete against John Wick 3 the following weekend.

2.2 billion estimate after the weekend.
$500 million to go. Going to be dicey.

It’ll get there. 850ish million domestically and 1.95 billion international

Would be nice to actually see a good movie be at the top of the list. Avatar is so bad. Disappointed I went to see it in theaters. It was my first 3-D movie and the only other one I saw in 3-D was the first Thor.

Then Godzilla the next...

Yeah, the competition gets stiff from here. Aladdin after Godzilla. I still say passing Avatar is a done deal. I'm more interested to see if it can catch TFA domestic total.

It's getting a lot of repeat viewings, which for a 3 hour movie (almost 3.5 once you add the trailers), that's a commitment.

Sorry to say fellas, but the Avatar sequels are going to crush the box office. China alone will break all types of records.

Why, is he inventing an even newer version of 3-D?

I saw this broke 2 billion in less than 1/4 the time of Avatar. Crazy. Any chance this hits 3 billion?

I don't think it hits 3 billion. $2.8-$2.9 is more likely.

After Pikachu, it's next competition will be Godzilla.

It's early tracking numbers are $40-50 mil opening weekend. Yes, that will cut into Endgames week 4 numbers.

Aladdin is the 24th, Godzilla the 31st.
Pikachu
John Wick 3

Are your next 4 big releases.

quote:I’ve seen a little less at, $30-$40 million. So it looks like $40 million seems like a reasonable median estimate here.

Now that would be impressive given its genre and R-rating; however, it’s not some especially number for the “summer” box office season (200ish) or then just May itself (40ish). So I’m not sure that the amount (unless a big upside surprise) would have too much of an impact. Plus I think there is a low enough overlap in the viewer demographics given the genre and content differences, plus the 4th weekend demographics for a film are often different (less passionate, families, word of mouth, etc.) than the 1st weekend demographics.
So compared to IW competing against Deadpool, an R-rated Marvel comic book film, and its $125+ million opening, competing against John Wick will probably have much less of an impact on Endgame.

Update - Tues 12.5, Wed 8.4, Thurs 7.5. It's definitely slowing down a bit. I still think 900 million is possible, but surpassing TFA will be tough.
