You're right. You wouldn't want to see Oliver having to fight the elite powered metahumans every week since it wouldn't be very realistic. But they should still leave the possibility open when a good idea comes to them on how they can pull it off. It's a cool little "gimmick" that they can hold in their back pocket when they want to give the comic readers a geek out every now and then.

A friend at work and I were talking about the show last night and he brought up an interesting theory that I really liked.
What if making Laurel Black Canary is the way the show writes off Laurels character? I understand the importance of BC in the GA mythos but Laurle is arguably the weakest link in the show (her or Roy) and the Arrow cave is getting awfully crowded. Do we really need three masked vigilantes on the same show?
So what if they train Laurel up a bit and then ship her off to a different city? Maybe have her guest star every now and again, that way we see her progressing as Black Canary, but we're not subjected to Laurel every single week.

Nope, I don't either. I think Laurel has always been a big part of the showrunners plans since the beginning. That is why most of us knew it was only a matter of time before Sara was killed off. I think that Black Canary is just too big of a part of Green Arrow's world to just write her out of the show now.

The thing that I worry about is Arrow becoming like How I Met Your Mother. Those show runners stuck to their original idea even though the show had evolved and characters had changed. Arrow could be going down that path by sticking to the "Laurel becomes Black Canary" route even though they had a better and more interesting Canary in Sara.

Black Canary has been a legacy hero since the retcon of '83. Makes sense for them to start with one and have her mantel taken up by a family member (sisters, instead of mother/daughter as in the comics).
I'm liking having her train the hard way, especially since it brings in Wildcat (even though he's a puny Wildcat who doesn't seem to have the form of a championship fighter).

I wanted to type that but I was busy haha
The people in charge like her character and the Ollie laurel dynamic. They won't get rid of that.

You guys arnt really grasping what I'm saying here. I think when the creators first started brainstorming ideas for the show that Laurel taking up the mantle of BC after the death of her sister, the original BC, that it was a great idea. It had potential to be a really gripping and exciting storyline but somewhere along the line things changed.
Part of it is how bad the Laurel character has been developed and how well Sara was. Sara felt like the actual BC, she was believable as a masked crime fighter and you can see how her crucible shaped her into the person she had become. I honestly cant tell the difference between early season 1 Laurel and season 3 Laurel, even though she's supposedly gone through her crucible.
My biggest gripe about the Laurel/BC story line is that first they killed off Sara for no other reason than to thrust Laurel into the role and that her whole story line takes time away from the stronger characters. Characters that made the show what it was in season 2. Captain Lance hasnt done shite all season, Dig is routinely sidelined, Thea and Merlyn have had like five minutes of screen time together.
I agree that Black Canary is integral to every Green Arrow story, but that doesnt mean she has to be present for all of it. Send her to Coast City or Bludhaven, let her come back a couple of times a season, and bring on Nyssa as a regular to fill the "strong women that kick arse" quota.

Well that description for episode 10 is a major spoiler. But it confirms your theory that Oliver will be MIA from Starling City (I'm surprised they used Star City instead of Starling City).
Also with Sin making an appearance, my long shot theory of Sin being Sara's killer just became a bit more possible.

I noticed that too, maybe Palmer's name change happens in the mid season finale. I also really dont think Sin is the killer mainly because I dont think the actress that plays her is available for more than an episode or two.

just watched a clip from the cross over, there will be some great felicity gifs after this episode

She'll show back up in episode 12, then their is some sort of revelation in episode 13. So it is possible for them to actually solve her murder in that 13th episode.
But like I said, it is a longshot theory. I still think it'll turn out to be Ra's, but Sin does fit the description that Felicity gave when they all thought it was Roy.

Son of a bitch, just found out I have to work during the crossover tomorrow. Waiting until Wednesday morning to watch the episode is gonna suck.

I agree if it's just her killing Sara on her own for some trumped up reason. But if she has been brainwashed or tricked somehow by Ra's into doing it, then I can see it working for the overall season storyline.
