It's been a while since i've been this disappointed in a show. It started off slow/not that great for the 1st few episodes, but it has gotten borderline bad the last few.

I dont understand why you would take the source material from one of the greatest sci fi series of all time, and just decide to pretty much ignore everything in it except for character names.

The credits say "based on the Novel by Isaac Asimov". It should probably read "Isaac Asimov wrote a book called Foundation and we are using the title and a few of the character names but that is it. We are smarter than the greatest science fiction writer of all time."

Thoughts on the show? Maybe if I didnt read the books I would like it more, but even then, they are making some super uninteresting characters.

Started off hot and now it's cooling off this last episode was meh.

The actors suck outside of Lee Pace and Jared Harris.

Yea I hoped they would have stretched Harris' character out a bit more. This chick has been especially bad...

I think the show is a fine watch for an hour each week. It doesn't get me excited but it's entertaining enough, just kind of there.

I admittedly know zip about the source material.

I haven't read the book and I do think I've enjoyed it more because of that, BUT

This person, and the Anacreons in general, feel like a movie villain, where because it's 2 hours long you don't get enough character depth and back story.

It's really weird in that in some ways the show feels so detailed you have to watch it multiple times to keep up like Game of Thrones. In other ways you get characters and entire peoples that you don't know anything about so it's hard to know how to feel about them.

I don't know how much they are trying to pack into season 1, but 10 episodes feels like it won't be enough.

This. I didn't know anything about source material but I do enjoy the show. It's not amazing but I like it enough to continue watching.

I liked the first episode, but I guess I didn't like it enough to prioritize watching any episodes since.

Not a glowing endorsement.

Yea, like the last episode with Brother Days trip. You just introduce two politicians in the middle of a political dual the viewers don't know about and then by the end of the episode one of the becomes like a reverend Jessie Jackson spewing out nonsense about the empire. In 5 minutes of screen time you have this woman making people bow down before her in front of the empire. Even Demerzel bows down. I'm like why in the world am I supposed to care about this. Don't over complicate things and then don't explain the importance at all of others.

That storyline was prefaced an episode or two ago, I think while the Cleons were having their family dinner.

They discussed how one of the frontrunner candidates for leader of this religion, with trillions of followers, was running on a platform based on anti-imperial rhetoric. Obviously, that would not be what the empire wants, and could be one of the things that lead to the fall, so Day went to try to steer the election toward the candidate that better suits them.

Enjoyed the return of Hari Seldon to the show but I can't be alone in not caring much for Gaal or Salvor.

I stopped after 5 or 6 I think - I'll binge the whole thing once its all out. They just have a bunch of generic dumb sci fi shite thrown in there.

Also they had a terribly storyline for Gaal in the episodes I saw, she got some dumb romance shite and then was off screen for several episodes and then comes back and tries to have some emotional meltdown scene that doesn't land and then gets to spend some time figuring out how to work around a computer program, muttering some science and math terminology so we see she is smart.

Its just really bad writing catering to lowest common denominator sci fi shite.

In the scope of sci fi tv shows, it isn't the worst and is watchable but given the quality of the source material and the budget, it is a very poor effort.

I love that a character that was in 1-2 chapters of the entire series is now one of the main characters.

Its like when people do something Asimov they think "ok he is the best sci fi writer of all time so i'm just going to go ahead and do exactly the opposite of this material."

I thought they would do something like this but it would take the form of them taking a single character and inserting them into several of book 1 plotlines to maintain continuity - not just create a bunch of other stuff for them to do.

So Gaal is a minor character in the books?

I’m in it so I will finish it, but it’s not very good. At least it’s pretty, lol.

Its sad that I cant say for sure because I just read this maybe 3 months ago, but I think he was inn the 1st chapter. The story starts out with him and you think he's going to be a main character, but he never shows up again. There are large time jumps.

Gaal is a guy, not a pregnant girl. The guy that she's in love with doesnt even exist, so thats not how Hari dies. Salvor is a guy. There is no cloning in the book so the Day/Dawn/Dusk thing is made up, which means almost all their side stories are made up.
