It shows what Paramount had to go through to get The Godfather made.

At least so far, Puzo has downed a salad, gotten beat up by loansharks, gotten in a fight with Sinatra, eaten a whole casserole dish of something Italian while floating in a pool. Gotten into a long term food porn relationship with Coppola and argued with Coppola about a ham sandwich and who ate it.

Meanwhile, Ruddy, the producer is having his car window being shot out by Mickey Cohen as a favor to the guys back East.

And that was just the first episode.

Tried last night, but it was so terrible in almost every way, that I couldn’t finish the episode

It's really not that bad. It's sort of comical overall. You have the mobsters fretting over this with Joe Columbo (Giovanni Ribisi) thinking this will make the mob look bad but first he rats out Joe Bonanno to other commission members. A studio executive who looks as though he's having the best time and having cocktails at 10 in the morning with 3 women ( the Jack Evans character is first rate) and an Austrian head of Paramount who is just so frickin eccentric he's hilarious.

Meanwhile you have Ruddy as sort of the straight guy trying to navigate through all of this Hollywood madness while having his life threatened. But he has a cool Secretary .

Meanwhile, Puzo is the funniest character. He did not want to write The Godfather because he hated wiseguys. But after getting beat up because he owes them money his wife makes him. The scenes of Puzo in Hollywood are funny and him and Coppola are sort of like in an ersatz homosexual like relationship.

You probably should watch it as something of a comic drama

Watched the first episode late last night before going to bed. enjoyed it and looking forward to watching the rest ( i think the first three episodes are out).

I'm a sucker for period pieces that give you the back story like this, and this one is pretty well done. Not sure on some of the hairstyles and fashions matching up to the actual time periods in last night's show-- there were some time references (Hogan's Heroes, Planet of the Apes) but throwing some dates up on the screen might have helped those who are not aware of when certain things came out.

Liked the homage/juxtaposition to The Godfather toilet gun scene with Giovanni Ribisi and the other mafia folks.
