As bad as it is, This movie will always have a soft spot with me. I was playing Texas he football when this movie came out. Took my GF at the time to see it.
Brown was an awesome running back and I wish the writers got him a better scholarship than Grambling.

Speaking of Kilmer, why did he never move on to the next level?
He should have been coaching aTm or UT or somehwere.

Because its a movie and the narrative is better if he is a HS coaching legend over 20 years instead of 5.

Nasty rumors of things he did with the retarded ball boy.

Guards are lard asses. No he wouldn't be able to play LT, but guard is exactly where he'd play.
I understand this but no a pulling guard like they used him. 98% of time the biggest fattest kid in high school was the worst O-linemen on the team.
Run stopping, hole plugging DT is where i see him.

Of course, and anyone who doesn't is a communist.
Fantastic movie, cheese and all. I remember seeing it and thinking about how realistic the football looked...people were actually getting hit instead of looking like choreographed plays.

Very rarely do you see successful HS coaches move on to college at all and not to places like Texas or A&M.

Well if were going this movie i might as well throw mine out
1) why did they keep showing the clock in rbd final play of the game? Once the ball is snapped, the clock is irrelevent. They mace it seem like he had to score before the clock hit zero like basketball
2) why did they not got to the playoffs? They won district and I believe Kilmer mentioned winning state earlier in the film

I always assumed they played in a crappy district; where they best players are always "zoned" to them. So come playoff time they usually lose to a lufkin, Katy or dallas carter.
I think because events of the last game, Kilmour gets wrapped up in scandal of PEDs and grade fixing that ends his career. He retires in the Texas panhandle drinking lone star all day.

Texans don't drink Lone Star. In the panhandle it's Coors (pronounced "kirs") exclusively.

It's in the "terribly awesome" category.
And one of the most quotable movies ever.
Fun drinking game: drink for every religious reference.

Right, after winning district, it was the last football game of their lives.
Still a glorious film.

Team was probably put on probation by the Texas High School Sports. Probably some controversy that Kilmer got the other team's coach arrested because he wouldn't leave the field pre-game.
