I’m sure some have but with it being Christmas tomorrow it’s reminded of the total hell that’s about to come for what’s mostly high schooler and college kids on their breaks. I can still vividly remember the shite show that is working at a movie theater on Christmas, anyone else have that Holiday fueled PTSD?

Working a movie theater at concessions and usher was a hellish experience.

I've worked very hard to repress this memory

I can only imagine how much holiday crazy there must have been.

Festivus (airing of grievances) does replace Christmas in many families. And many of those celebrating refuse to do so privately

Just like how I can’t really fathom how people would rather sit outside a department store on Thanksgiving, I can’t really fathom how people can go to the movies on Christmas. Like, I’m not passing up time to drink and hang out with family members that I haven’t seen in a while, or pass up on a great meal to go sit in a dark room on a holiday. You could do that any other day

Going to the movies on Christmas used to BE a family event.

For about 20-30 years, it was a time when everyone could go relax and enjoy time with each other, without having to bloaviate on about this or that.

You were kind of either a movie family or you weren't, I guess. I have fond childhood memories of seeing numerous great films in the theaters with cousins and aunts, siblings, etc.

NOW, however, the film industry is so dogshit, that there's no reason to go. It's quite sad, actually.

Worked at the AMC in Hammond for 3 years and Christmas Day was a freaking nightmare. Was an usher and concessions and the ridiculous amount of people there all day long made it insane. We would have movies that would be it for out for a solid month already would sell out all day long. Auditoriums and behind the concession stands were just covered in popcorn.

I never knew that you could go to the movies on Christmas. I think the only time I have ever done it was when we were in NYC over Christmas and didn’t really know what else we wanted to do. Even then, I thought that the theater was only open because it was NYC.

Edit: I mean I didn’t know until well into adulthood. I have known for a while now. Still baffles me that people have this as their tradition.

Worked at the BR RAVE for 3 hours.

Swept the theaters and made drinks for people. Was sent home early and I quit that night.

I did. I’d go home after my shift Christmas night and have dreams that I was still at work and the lines never ended.

Same. I've never heard of it or thought of it. Though I can certainly understand wanting to get out of the house; my folks were all of the "let's sit around the house and talk about old memories for hours on end" variety.

I dated a chick in high school who worked at one. Got to see plenty of free movies as a result.

I heard plenty of horror stories though. I remember she once called me in tears wanting me to come up there and beat this redneck's arse who was smoking in the theater and got testy when she asked him to leave. So I drove all the way up there not knowing what the frick I was about to walk into and by the time I got there, the manager and cops had already thrown him out a while ago. But she let me watch Casino Royale for free so it was worth it (and that's when my love for Bond was born)
