That would rock. American gods was nothing like i thought going into that novel. Had a really believable feel to go along with the mythology. There should be some great characters on screen.

Yeah, the characters are fantastic. I kind of wanted to see American Gods made into a comic with the artists Gaiman used for Sandman.

And yes, the realism is fantastic. I love that he takes the mythological and supernatural and makes seem as if it fits perfectly within the bounds of reality, while at the same time existing outside those bounds. Don't know if that makes sense, but it all feels complete, rather than dichotomous.

Oh, and shameless bump just for giggles.

Add me to the Book Reading Bastards list. I just downloaded it and will read it when I finish the Mitch Rapp series.

Fair warning: It's pretty out there sometimes.

As I said earlier, his most accessible novel is definitely Neverwhere, which you may benefit from reading first.

They are connected in no way, but it will get you used to Gaiman's writing style such that you don't get to certain parts and think: "What the fricking frick just happened?"

But yeah, it's a fantastic novel. I need to reread it.

Loved this book. It was the small touches that made it special, like Shadow and his coin tricks, or his relationship with his wife.

That ought to be creepy as hell with HBO behind the reigns.

I'm usually into sci fi/fantasy type novels, which is what initially got me interested in the book. After reading it though, there is a realism to it all that makes the fantasy part of it almost seem possible. (pretty much what you said but wanted to type it in my own works )

Yeah, I just think he does a great job of keeping the setting in the modern world while intermingling the fantastic. There is no "Once upon a time..." or "In the land of Westeros/Middle Earth...." No, it's "In Brooklyn, Jack jumped over the candlestick..." and it works. He is not unlike Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

The casting thoughts in this link are pretty good IMO.

I really like this book and have reread it a couple times. I never thought of it as series fodder. It feels more like a movie to me.

I am a huge Pratchett fan and from there I sort of migrated to Gaiman.
