I don't think those are even close to comparable. Usually the overly convoluted story lines in soap operas involve main characters you are very familiar with. GoT is constantly throwing out names of people and houses you may have only seen in one scene a few episodes ago. You really have to keep up with the expansive cast of characters well to not feel lost. That's a very different use of brain power than following a convoluted plot line where the main character is actually her own evil twin and the good twin is locked in the basement.

Convoluted because you have to manufacture drama for the same small group of people every day =/= Complicated because the scope of the story you are telling is epic.

I've defended BBT on here many times, I'm certainly no TV snob, I like what I like and don't care what the rest of you people think. But GoT is most definitely complicated and requires actually paying attention to enjoy unlike some shows that can be enjoyed in the background.

Those shows are always killing off characters and adding new ones. WWE has a massive stable of characters, it's exactly the same.

The storylines are actually quite the same in the most basic way, a constant struggle for power.

Simpletons do watch and understand Game of Thrones, it requires very little brainpower to watch/understand it. It's sad when you have to use a child's game of Memory as an example for why it's a complicated show.

If you simply just want to enjoy Game of Thrones and not understand it, all it requires is you like boobs and killing. If you like those two things, you can find enjoyment in the show.

True of any show that has boobs and killing, so your point is meaningless. You seem pretty clueless about the show, seems to me your talking out of your arse. If you don't like it fine your opinion but your arguments are ignorant.

I enjoy the show, I also enjoy and have read all the books. I can run through a long list of spoilers from the books if you wish...

I just don't believe the show is some bastion for intellectual audiences and dumb people can't fully grasp it. It's a good show and wide variety of people enjoy it and a wide variety of people don't enjoy it.

Sorry bro read them all myself, if you do not find the show complicated then what in your view is complicated on TV? Is GoT the most complicated show ever on TV, no but its complexity level is far above the norm and at least on par with great shows like the Wire.

I don't really think anything on mainstream is ever going to be complicated. It's all made for consumption of the masses. Networks want audiences and advertising dollars.

If I want complicated, I will turn to books, I won't look for it on TV.

I've attempted to start watching the series multiple times, but I just don't get into it. Is it a show that grows on you as time progresses and you watch more episodes or is it "either you like it or you don't" kind of thing?

It's a good show, but vastly overrated due to the number of book readers.

I didn't mean it to be, I watch some really really junk TV and enjoy it, see HIMYM thread.

It's just the reality of TV shows.

Thank you for your thoughtful and oh so insightful reply

You asked a Yes/No question, and he responded with "Yes".

You suck.

Also, the first season starts out really slow beyond the first 10 minutes of the first episode. Thankfully, it picks up speed big time late in the season and rarely loses that pace the rest of the series.

This is something that answers a lot. I have only tried watching from the beginning and find it slow. I see a lot of posters saying it gets better over time, so I'll give it another go with that in mind

Actually if you read my OP, I start with the yes/no question, and then ask more probing questions surrounding the show, which a lot of posters have done a great job of explaining.

Is it the part where the audience suspends their imagination that a homosexual male plays an effeminate nerd?

And he got an Emmy for it...

Honestly, I don't get the huge popularity of GoT.
Apparently boobies and killing brings in the masses, while powerful drama set in a fantasy realm brings in the nerds.

And btw, I don't believe I was insulting to the OP. Condescending, perhaps.

I also agree that GoT doesn't take a significant intelligence to enjoy. I believe I said that I would think GoT would, not that it does. The reasoning is that shows such as GoT are usually watched by an audience with a higher intelligence due to the material.

And before someone gets their panties in a bunch, nerdish (fantasy, D&D, sci-fi) material generally draws nerds and nerds in general have a higher intelligence than average.
