There are plenty of books that are good in which people who read them could not get into the show
GoT on HBO doesn't meet that criteria.

I liked the first season, but it wasn't until around the halfway point of the second season that I really got into it.

Yeah, unfortunately it's not Gravity.
Because it has boobies? Right. Yeah that sex makes it so complex.
There's no need to insult the OP. People have preferences, I'm sure you like some "unintelligent" things.
But let's be clear, GoT is "intelligent" like any other well made, high production quality, genre show with a decent script. In that, as long as you can understand and read English, I think you'll be fine. See Lost, BSG, The X-Files, etc.

Sure there are. But those are usually bad shows with disappointed fans. If you read GoT you've probably got a certain degree of geek in you. If you post on the MTV Board about it, you're probably a huge geek. If you're a huge geek, I don't see how you couldn't love the show. I'd think it's everything you hoped it could be and more.
But there's always outliers.

Definitely agree, I love geeky things, but the whole Dungeons and Dragons thing I never really got in to.
Now I have friends that absolutely drool over that shite and I think its funny, but I am the same way with zombie/post-apocalyptic fiction

Honestly, I don't get the huge popularity of GoT. Not even from this perspective. Geek or not. But that's another discussion.

I'm definitely a GoT nerd. Started off watching the first 2 seasons as a non book reader ("Hodor" as this board calls them) and read all the books last year when S3 started. The books made me obsessed with the series
. I can't imagine one without the other; they complement each other so well.

GoT is def high quality in terms of production, and that alone makes it enjoyable. I recently tried watching Camelot, and it seemed cheap and small scale. Plus the casting was pitiful.

I'm pretty meh on the show, but the books are great.
I'm pretty meh on the walking dead too fwiw

I think for me, the reason I haven't been able to get into it is the same reason I can't get that into True Blood. I can't handle all the nude and sex scenes, True Blood has them but not every 5 minutes aha.
