The golden god rant is from robert plant, the whole "the buzz" schtick was from glenn fry, and trying to nail down the interview was crowe dealing with gregg allman.

The band Stillwater is ficticous in the movie. There was an actual band in the 70's called Stillwater. Their big hit was a song called Mindbender. The actual Band StillwTer was part of the first Mountain Jam with Charlie Daniels. The movie is based upon Cameron Crow covering Peter Framptons, Frampton Comed,Alive tour as a young reporter for Rolling Stone Magazine. Crow also wrote the liner notes on Frampton Comes Alive album.

There's actually an extended cut called "untitled" that makes the movie that much better. Alot of stuff in the beginning is expanded among other things. Highly recommend trying to find a copy if you're a big fan of the movie.

I have the deluxe DVD version of the movie that I got years ago and it has an accompanying CD included of the fictitious band Stillwater included in a slip case to make it look like an old school vinyl record. It has "Fever Dog" and a few other songs. Very 70s sounding, maybe a little too self-consciously so.

Supposedly the band consists of Nancy Wilson, Peter Frampton, Mike McCready and some studio guys. Marty Fredrickson is the vocalist that Jason Lee lip syncs to.

Such a great great movie. Definitely on the list of those I have watched countless times and will still put on if I see it when channel surfing.

In addition to all the other great performances and lines, Philip Seymor Hoffman taking such an otherwise minor role and making it memorable and pivotal. RIP PSH.

One of my top 5 favorite movies of all time.

You CANNOT make friends with the rock stars. That's what's important. If you're a rock journalist - first, you will never get paid much. But you will get free records from the record company. And they'll buy you drinks, you'll meet girls, they'll try to fly you places for free, offer you drugs... I know. It sounds great. But they are not your friends. These are people who want you to write sanctimonious stories about the genius of the rock stars, and they will ruin rock and roll and strangle everything we love about it.

All of the dialogue from Hoffman, as Lester Bangs in that film was great. I just just finished watching it and enjoyed it.

Speaking of Philip Seymore Hoffman rock movies that occurred in the 70s.

Anyone a fan of Pirate Radio (The Boat that Rocked)? Hoffman, Bill NIghy, Nick Frost, Emma Thompson. It's not quite to the level of Almost Famous, but a cool look back at a very strange time in Rock N Roll.

This is correct, I saw them when I was in high school. On the song Mindbender they used a talk box I think it was called. They were a pretty decent band

in my all time top 10.... I fell in love with Penny Lane

CSB time… a friend of mine used to be tour manager for Nick Jonas. He said they were on the bus somewhere in the Midwest on a leg, and they make a stop to take a piss and what not. When they got back on the bus, Kate Hudson hopped on with them and banged it out for a few weeks with the Jonas brother. She stayed on for a few cities with them and eventually hopped off and disappeared just like she had arrived.

Penny Lane was Kate Hudson and Kate Hudson was Penny Lane.
