Alfred Hitchock’s The Birds (1963) - mild Spoilers

Streaming on prime in 4k. Watched it for the first time in like 15 years. What a damn good movie.
I love that the first hour is like a proto rom com. Develops all of the characters and the weird dynamics between Rod Taylor & Tippi Hedren, the ex girlfriend and possessive mother. And then BOOM! Second half is full blown bird attacks. Hitchcock was in his bag with this one. The school house scene and diner scene back to back are just fantastic.
But the ending. Absolutely brilliant. No explanation for why or how the attacks are happening. Just one last eerie final shot of the birds watching.
Also there’s something deeper thematically going on with the caged love birds and how they are the only non violent birds in the movie.

I have a vintage The Birds movie poster hanging in my office. Love this movie. Hitchcock was on a pretty incredible run at this point.
Honestly about the only "animal attacks" movies that is somewhat believable/creepy. Definitely a masterpiece by the master of suspense.

Come on man. Anyone who complains about spoilers for a 60 plus year old movie can frick right off.

Fun fact: Tippi Hedren is largely responsible for the Vietnamese dominating the nail salon market in the U.S.

Hitchcock from 1951 to 1964 was on fire. 13 movies which included:
Strangers on a Train
Dial M for Murder
Rear Window
To Catch a Thief
The Man Who Knew Too Much
Vertigo
North by Northwest
Psycho
The Birds
Marnie
Ridiculous. Also, Tippi Hedren is underrated as a Hitchcock lead.

Fun fact: Veronica Cartwright is the only actress in history to be chased by rabid birds in Bodega Bay AND be killed by a Xenomorph

That is impressive and not only that he had his television program Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour within that same time span. It's quite amazing really

That was my exact reaction when I posted about seeing a pilot for what eventually became "The Dick Van Dyke Show". It was called "Head of the Family"
In that version, the entire cast was not the same as the show we all know. Carl Reiner played Rob Petrie, the head writer for "The Alan Sturdy Show".
Barbara Britton played his wife Laura and Sylvia Miles and Morty Gunty played Rob's co-workers at the office.
I had never seen that version and posted about it and someone ranted about "Spoilers" and I had to laugh since the show came out in 1960, well over 60 years ago at the time.
