Lie-max is what I’ll settle for. I avoid Dolby Prime because the dual projectors at the NOLA locations are out of phase which creates fuzzy images in the corners of the frame. Waste of money. Plus the high contrast of this format will be least film-like, and furthest from Nolan’s aspect ratio— thankfully the Lie-max’s in NOLA DO have boxier formats (not quite 4.3), but this is not true of all Lie-max. Fair warning, those of you who see it in film will be surprised at how dim the image is compared to even a standard DCP, and if you have an incompetent projectionist you’re in for a muddy image. Saw Dunkirk on celluloid in Elmwood and it was a disaster (at that time the cinema was terribly run). The real reason to see it in that format is the aspect ratio… or if you suffer from some fetishistic attachment to the idea. Lie-Max is the right compromise (without traveling forever).

Well I just learned I’ll be in Nashville on the 29th. Looks like I’m seeing it in 70mm IMAX. Going to take my 14-yo son… he has heard about it and showed interest.

That is awesome. I wish my 17 year-olds were more interested. I was thinking about going to Nashville to catch it, too, but I'm not crazy about driving 2 hours each way.

Prytania is showing it in 70mm. Better to see on standard 70mm or fake IMAX?

I didn’t realize that, thanks for pointing that out. Now I have a decision to make too. Their projection is usually top notch. The only problem is that the aspect ratio will not be as correct as Lie-max. I think I’ll see Lie-max first, and maybe check out Prytania before it leaves

Wondering the same thing. Minneapolis has:

"IMAX at AMC"
"IMAX with Laser"
Dolby Cinema
70mm
Digital

Depends on what you’re after I think

Fake IMAX is likely still a better theater experience in that it’ll be louder, bigger and all that, but I believe I’ve read that since the aspect ratio is different, but the visuals will not be as crisp and I believe some pieces of the screen may get cut off due to the different aspect ratios.

Standard 70mm will look a lot better but will probably not blow you away on the audio and scale

Non-IMAX 70mm will have the same aspect ratio as a standard DCP (it’s the screen, not the format). Lie-Max Laser is the best compromise in that department. Also, it’s not necessarily true that film is superior in terms of resolution and brightness. Lie Max is easily brighter because the screen is both smaller and the lasers are brighter than the bulbs of standard projection. While the most information is technically present on the 70mm celluloid strip, the stability and brightness of digital projection tends to give the impression that DCPs are resolving more; also film prints vary from print to print in terms of color and quality, but there is a certain aura that some viewers may find desirable since you’re seeing something truly 1 of a kind (this is what is being romanticized by Nolan and others). But many DPs prefer their work, even those they shoot on celluloid, to be screened DCP because of its reliability (Deakins finds the idea of film projection comical)
