More power to them for consistently working and feeding their kids. But what actors went from critically acclaimed or recognized roles, to the discount DVD bin?

Starting with:

Val Kilmer
Cuba Gooding Jr
Ben Kingsley

Who coincidentally was in a horrible Redbox movie I caught that Cuba Gooding, Jr. was in. Things haven't been the same after Gleaming the Cube.

Glanced at his credentials, he's done about 50 movies since Sin City that I haven't even heard of.

C. Thomas Howell, hands down.

Cuba Gooding Jr. is another great choice

Cuba really disappeared. I am not sure what the hell happened to his career. Kilmer has still been in some decent movies.

It does appear that Madsen will be in anything. Nothing wrong with paychecking, but all the lame roles might have kept him from any good roles.

Madsen is making his big "comeback" as the sheriff who puts aways Bonnie and Clyde in the new Bonnie and Clyde remake.

Disagree on Dafoe, He just does a lot of off the beaten track art films, like the new Lars von Trier film, Antichrist. And then he does something fo the paycheck, like Boondock Saints 2.

And how am I the first person to mention Nic Cage?

i cant believe the garbage Cuba Gooding dropped into. That one stupid arse movie with him in the military vs monsters or whatever and that one with him as a crooked cop.

My answer would be Ray Liotta - was in Powder Blue which was an abomination and also in a drug movie I just saw called The Line. movies that couldve been good but were just terrible.

The kiss of death was the fitness infomercial.

I'll throw in Jennifer Grey (Baby from Dirty Dancing).

I have to include Eddie Murphy. From Trading Places and Coming to America, to Pluto Nash and Rated G films.

Will you just taste the soup?

Jennifer Gray didn't have a big enough career to fall off.

Eddie is another good one. I pray one day he will stop paychecking and stick to better roles.

Snipes almost makes no sense. He must be know amongst director's as an a-hole otherwise I can't understand how he just disappeared like Cuba.

I just watched The Line last week, I couldn't believe that Ray Liotta was in that. Esai Morales, I could understand, or that Rican guy from New York Undercover.

Do you think that it's a coincidence that I started this thread after noticing one about Nic Cage?

I'm not sure, but would Eddie Murphy be considered in this category?

Good question. I know how much plenty of actors make, but I'm not sure how it works out if you've at least had some serious name recognition in the past.

I made the mistake of renting "The Sound of Thunder" in which Ben Kingsley charges time-traveling safari hunters to shoot dinosaurs. I wondered just how much they'd have to offer the guy who won an Academy Award portraying Gandhi to appear in such a horrible film.

I guess it beats a 9-5, but damn.
