It's about a group of Brazilian kids living in a favela near Rio. A bunch of them become drug dealers and the narrator ends up becoming a famous journalist and tells the story.
It's pretty good. My favorite foreign film by far.

This is actually deserving of being on the ot, anyone who has not seen it yet, do so immediately. One of the greatest films ever made.

Ok, just finished watching it. It was good, can't say it's one of my favorite movies. The wife enjoyed it also, but I'd say maybe it didn't live up to the hype of some posters.

Movies that get hyped up to you never live up to it. I think this is more a statement of how going into a movie with expectations can ruin the experience.
I think it's a great movie in the upper echelon of quality, and a lot of people agree with me. You might just need to let it percolate what was depicted and how effectively it was depicted and not expect to be just blown away with greatness. Or maybe it just wasn't your thing.

One of my favorites. When a Best Picture film (Slumdog Millionaire; great as well) is a "poor man's version," then you know it has to be well-made.

Its OK but I was let down after lots of people on the Movie board said it was top 5 ever.
