Just finished, and holy shite. So much happened in this book and it was all fricking awesome.
Whoever said they need to keep the Tyrion killing Tywin scene the same in the show is right, but they should add something about Tywin doesn't shite gold.
Final Sansa chapter was very intense at the end. I kept saying in my head "George you fat frick, you are gonna kill all the Starks," then Lysa got pushed out the door and I was expecting Petyr to say something like "the things I do for love."
Another thing, I feel like as long as the direwolves are ok then the Starks will be ok. Sansa just seems to be wandering around in a nightmare since Lady was killed. I'm hoping Arya finds Nymeria soon. Jon back with Ghost is awesome, Bran seems gold right now. And Catelyn said as much to Robb when she noticed he was distancing himself from Grey Wind.
Gonna start on AFFC tomorrow and I will stay away from all these threads until I finish it.
Oh, and not an alter.

Everytime they mention the pack of wolves lead by "a huge she-wolf" I get excited about the prospect of Arya finding her in the future. It would be cool if Nymeria was like her dragon that she rode into battle.

No doubt. That's why you knew something was going to happen to Robb. Whenever they do get to the 3rd TV showing, that's going to be pretty sick if they show the Dire wolf sewn on Robb's head.

Had to bump just to reiterate what everyone else has said. Just finished the last page. An absoutely amazing read.

Arya with the tickler was awesome, and finding needle again was just sweet justice. Her, Tyrion, and John Snow's plot lines are just so well done, I'm excited everytime I see their chapters pop up.

I actually like Mance Rayder so far, I hope he plays a continuing role. And "Coldhands" is very intriguing. First time I've become really interested in Brans POV.

Lastly, the Red Viper/Mountain fight scene was beautifully narrated, and the result quite shocking. I had expected the RV to win, but I should know by now not to "expect" anything. I'm always wrong with this author.

I know FOC is supposed to be a significant step back from SOS, but can't wait to start it tonight all the same.

One more thing...I watched the first season on HBO before starting the books, and am really glad I did. The settings, and faces, are consistent for me as I read. I'm really enjoying that.

GRRM

i just finished FOC about a week or so ago...i thought it was a pretty good read. if i had waited years for this book to come out, as many did, i can see where they might have been frustrated with the focus. But for me, having read them all back to back, the different perspective of FOC, with some new characters and a focus on some non-main characters, was actually a nice change of pace.

it isn't as good as the first three but I still enjoyed it. i'm about 200 pages into ADWD and it is very good so far.
