I just saw this movie. LINK

It truly is epic in scope, a sort of Bildungsroman of crime. It's a longer film at 2 and a half hours, but I can't recommend it highly enough. I'm probably ten months late on this, but this, along with Revanche and Silent Light are my favorite movies I've watched this year.

I really liked this movie, but was slightly disappointed due to the incredibly strong praise it had gotten. I think my expectations were probably a little too high.

It's somewhere in my netflix queue. I imagine it will work it's way up top eventually.

I don't think its a perfect movie, but I can live with its flaws, its uneven pacing, and the numerous strands of narrative that it tried to tie together while still remaining somewhat sartorially elegant. It deserves a second viewing at the least.

Have you seen any of the director's other films? The Beat That My Heart Skipped is worth checking out. It's not as good as A Prophet, but still a good movie. It was on instant at one point in time.

I love a good foreign movie. Watched City of God again last night and man, what a masterpiece that film is! Das Boot is up there as well.

These are the foreign films that I want to check out next:

Gomorrah
A Prophet
The White Ribbon
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
Oldboy

Revanche mentioned earlier is real good. My other foreign language neo-noir/thrillers from this past decade I really liked are:

The Trap
Broken Embraces
13 Tzameti
The Aura
Jerichow
Three Monkeys
