That all being said… the outdoor shite was so unnecessary and bad. Why? And don’t blame me for focusing on a 2 second scene like that… I’m not the one who put it front and center in the first few minutes of getting to know the character. There were other ways of humbling him or signaling to the viewer to not take things so seriously. Why this way? fricking horrible. Really.

I agree with this. For what it's worth, I enjoyed episode 1 (although like everyone else it feels way too short and these 3 short books shouldn't take half a decade or more for us to watch, but here we are). Anyway, I read the books years ago and really enjoyed them. I knew they had a different tone than other GOT material and I thought this episode actually did a good job of establishing that and an explicit shite scene wasn't necessary

Honestly, the "different tone" scene setter was set for me just a couple of minutes earlier "I could join the City Watch. 'You, stop raping, sir!'"

I wouldn't think Brienne and Hodor are a generation apart in age.

Agreed. If not for the flashback where Hodor was similar in age to Ned, Hodor could have been anywhere from 25 to 55 and I would have bought it.

Finally watched it.

Not sure why they included the shitting scene. Oh well.

The flashbacks are a funny way to interject history and what Dunk is thinking.

it seemed more authentic in the storytelling of the time
if you were to translate real history into the fake history of Game of Thrones

Shakespeare, Chaucer, a lot of the plays /stories from back in those days, real history the GOT is based on had a lot of sex and poop jokes

GRM telling the full story from thr characters' point of view is very Canterbury tales-ish

cowards DVing instead of offering a different perspective

Lots of good casting here, kid included. Love the actor (Ings) playing Lyonel Baratheon and his portrayal so far as well.

I think it was to reset the audience's expectations honestly.

Not sure why some folks are making a big deal out of it (not you)

What a weird thing to focus on, a two second shitting scene.

Dunc and egg are very well cast and I love Ings as Lionel Baratheon to liven up the episodes

Sure, but is watching someone have diarrhea on screen the first 3 minutes the only way to accomplish such a thing?

It was just a wtf moment that caught everyone off guard and added nothing to the show

I understand what they were trying to do (setting the tone). It was just out of place and jarring. The other flashbacks set the tone better IMO.

That said it wasn’t some horrific moment that ruined the episode. And shouldn’t be treated as such.

If there's one thing fans of all teams on this entire website can agree, it's that CP3 sucks. Hard.
