This was a great Flick.
Everything the OT says here is spot on.
Only down side is Demi Moore didnt take off her shirt for any reason.
Other than that. Everyone was great in this film.

JT Walsh should have testified first, then blow his brains out.

I read an interview with Cruise where he said they were doing the first rehearsal of the infamous scene and Jack nailed it 99% with the same emotion as the final cut.
Cruise said to himself "damn, we're in a whole new league with Jack."

Jack was perfect in that role. Nobody could have done better.
I heard they wanted Gene Hackman originally. I’m not saying that he’d be better, but I’d like to see the parallel universe where he does this role.

I have little doubt Hackman would have nailed the role as well. I agree would have been fun to watch them one after the other and see what two great actors brought uniquely to the role and to the scene.

It's funny that the producers wanted the audience to see Nicholson as the bad guy, when in reality , he turned out to be the hero.

I suspect Gene Hackman's version of Jessup would've been similar to his Crimson Tide CO Ramsey.

Nicholson is definitely not the hero

Yeah, I get the take that - he's right - we do want folks like him and need folks like him - but even in that context he proved to really not even be THAT guy. He should have stepped up and taken responsibility - and he didn't, therefore his little speech about honor, loyalty, code and responsibility ring hollow.
Killing a young man and covering it up and letting others take the fall for you does not save lives and strengthen a country.

Jack was the best, but I think that Christopher Walken could have pulled it off, also.

Exactly. And well said.

I love Walken but absolutely not.

Walken was great in Biloxi Blues.

There’s a difference between Jessup saying it about himself and Galloway saying it about Marines in general.
It the best line in the film and in context of conflict between Weinberg and Galloway it’s what reframes the storyline and the ultimate outcome.
Jessup speaks for himself; Galloway speaks for Everyman.

quote:
Galloway: Why do you hate them so much?
Lt. Weinberg: They beat up on a weakling, and that's all they did. The rest is just smokefilled coffee-house crap. They tortured and tormented a weaker kid. They didn't like him. So, they killed him. And why? Because he couldn't run very fast.
(Walks briskly away after answering, but after a few steps, turns back to Galloway)
Lt. Weinberg: Why do you like them so much?
Galloway: Because they stand upon a wall and say, "Nothing's going to hurt you tonight, not on my watch."
Jessup speaks for himself; Galloway speaks for Everyman.
