I agree the quality of TV shows are better today but the budgets are larger and the technology supporting them are far better.
I think the big difference today vs then is back then the shows were more about the actor/actress and the plot around them, where today it is about the story with the special effects to enhance it and the actor is more plug and play. Just my opinion.

Media is so splintered now.
Most of the talent back then went to 3 TV networks and shows like Magnum PI, Hill Street Blues, and ones in the OP. We've left out many other examples of course.
